I'm setting up my front end that consists of Image Dynamics CD2 horns and CX62 midrange/midbasses...can someone give me some advice on where to start with x-over points.
Also, they seem a little harsh in the 1k to 2k range...any thoughts on EQing? Obviously, I am looking for general hints that might help me in my tuning...i know every car will be different. Thanks, Lawrence. |

what bodies do you have? full size or mini?
What xover point are you using now? |
I have the minis...I have experimented with crossover points at both 800 Hz and 400 Hz (which, I guess, is essentially no crossover).
I was under the impression that you want to run with as low a crossover point as possible to improve imaging. Thanks, Lawrence. |
Yeah your crossing them over to low. forsure on the 400hz.
how low a horn plays depends basically on 4 things.. The area of the mouth, the flare, the diaprahm, and throat size of the driver. The minis with there small mouth are really limited to 1khz.. Try between 1 and 1.5khz for a xover point. the full size bodies could do 600 to 800 roughly... |
The CD2's do exhibit a hump in the 1Khz-3Khz range, EQíng could help, but first and formost, crossover points, level setting, and phase should be of concern. A crossover point in the 1Khz region will usually work best, but is not a rule of thumb... You have to experiment to see what works best, and how well the horn couples with the dash. Try flipping the phase of each driver, one at a time see how it affects the stage/tonality.
