Has anyone done this before: ?

I have a MTX thunderform box that will fit a sub with a maximum 5 1/2" mounting depth.

I have a sub that has a 6 1/2 inch mounting depth.

I want to use this box and sub together, even though it won't exaactly fit depth wise, so....

can I put a 1" ring on the front of the box to hold the sub out from the back of the box by an inch?

It sounds like it should work, anyone ever tried this before?

Do they sell spacer rings like this anywhere?

Would MDF be the best type of material to make a spacer out of?

Any help on this would be great!

No room to invert, its a stealth box for behind the rear seat of a quad cab pickup truck.

this is the box:

it will work. just go get some 3/4" mdf and cut yourself rings.

just make sure that the ring sits flush with the box and use some silicone to seal it off.

You could also use a heat gun and warm up the back of the box a LITTLE to move the depth back a bit maybe 1/2" and use a 1/2" ring for the rest.

For that price, any installer will happily cut you some.

Not a good idea - more work than building a ring, and more risky (potentially warming a hole righ tthrough the box) and there is no guarantee you'll get the depth you need.

Making a ring is quick and easy. I made 2 for my front speakers, and made one to fit an 8" sub into a 10" box. As mentioned above, use something (like silicone) to seal the ring to the box.
