I've found an infinity kappa perfect sub for $200. I'm wondering if this is a real loud, hard hitting sub. I'm also wondering what kind of amp you guys would recommend to run this sub.

I'm also wondering how this sub compares to an alpine type-R?

First It should hit in the 130's and sound great doing it. A good amp 500W (the sub israted at 350 RMS) if used with restraint would do nicely.
The asking price is ~$275 US new (regular 12 perfect $175).

i've played around with this sub.

My review of this driver, is that it is more of a SQ sub then anything.

Output on the driver is minimal, but it offers great low frequency response. (a tad sloppy on some notes)
Its transient response I wasn't too impressed with, I found the driver to have horrible response with fast paced music (Dance etc..)
It had no pressance really with that type of music.

I think better can be had for $200.........if you can find say an Arc Audio 12, or Image Dynamics IDQ for around that price range, I think you would be happier.....they hit nice and gave great SQ.

OR if your not into supurb SQ but "ok" SQ.
Try the Kicker L5 or L7, they get stupid Loud.......and with the proper box/tuning can sound dam good doing it too!

my 2 cents!

I would also purchase the ID over the Perfect.. but the perfect is a nice driver but I did not buy it (listening to it at a store I prefered the Mcintosh but the perfect is much cheeper). If you buy it I do not think you would regret it.

A friend of mine who is really into performance products (he has Alpine F#1 stuff) and is becoming an F#1 dealer used L5 last year with his SQ truck. He beat my butt when I went against him.
I always thought the Kicker Comp and Comp VR were decent SQ units that were quite loud
