input voltage question
Ya gains can be quite taxing to set properlly.
I have four amps, some old, some new, and a HU that pumps out 5v to the preouts.
My RF Punch amp's (drives my dash speakers) gains are set as low as they go, bare minimum.
My Clarion amp, which drives my rear speakers, is also set at bull low. This is my loudest amp at lowest settings, so I also have to set my fader forward (reducing HU output to the rear) one or two notches until everything blends nicely.
My Alpine V12 amp, which drives my front door speakers, is set slightly higher than bull low, just until they balanced nicely with the dash speakers.
And my Orion... it's the toughest of all, as it's gain is adjustable from 2.5 to 9v, with no markings. Just try to set it so it sounds "right" with all the other speakers.
This lets my HU's volume level peak out at about 30 (out of 35). For competition, I disable all amps except the Orion, reduce volume on the head to 24-25, and set the gain to that.

ooo Which raises another question...
My head unit also has it's own sub level/volume control. By default, it's in the middle, "0", and can range from -9 to +9.
So at it's default, is it's output the full 5v available, or is it 2.5 (exactly half), and full 5v output would be with the setting at +9?
Or would they overdrive this output, causing clipping to occur?
I tried running it at +6 to +7 for a while, with the gain turned down on the amp to compensate. Couldn't really tell any difference... Maybe I should break out a multimeter and see if I can read the preout voltages...
