Installing a new deck on a Caddy CST?
Hi, don't really know much about car audio
Getting a Cadillac CST tomorow and the dealer is trying to push this $1800 audio package on me which (or something like that) which has Bose speakers and all that jazz. I suggested just getting things aftermarket but he then told me it wouldnt be possible because the deck is connected to the onboard computer (that tells temperature, tire pressure, etc.) and the steering wheel controls so installing a new deck or anything else would ruin the system already in there
is this true? would getting a new cd player, deck, and visual display mess up the system already installed on the car? or is he just lying so i'm forced to pay more $$$ to get a freakin' CD changer?
and also, what would a new deck/speaker system roughly cost if i wanted to upgrade over what comes standard?
thanks

lol gotta love those dealerships. i'm pretty sure thiers some kind of harness that will make it work... but am not sure. i have older vehicles that don't require a kick in the *** to get done. late 99 and newer GM's seam to have every one kicking them selves for aftermarket products... i like pre ECU vehicles. it's all brains and no computer.
you mean a CTS ??? Ive never heard of a CST..
Hard to say if there is a harness available for it yet as they are relatilvy new to the market...
One thing is for sure that you can probably get a signal off of the stock deck to run aftermarket amps and speakers..... for $1800 installed you would have to decide if you can do better then whatever blose package they offer...
Visit some local shops and see what a FM modulated CD changer, an amp, and new speakers will cost installed...

yeah, CTS, i made a typo
" late 99 and newer GM's seam to have every one kicking them selves for aftermarket products."
so should i just listen to the guy about installing aftermarket products, messing with the stock setup?
and yeah, i'm gonna call a store tomorow before i go to the dealership. we gotta buy tomorow so i'm kinda dont have much time to decide...lol

Get the base system only. The Bose system is overpriced crap. Ask the sales dude to show you a Bose speaker, your jaw will drop. Glorified crap is all that it is. Take the car to a qualified install shop that will do a good thorough job for you. Save your $1800.00 and put it towards a proper system. Send MTA a PM and see if he can look after you.
Gm has become infamous for routing many things through the factory headunit. Without seeing this car I would err on the side of caution and find out from a installer in person first. (Test drive time right over to MTA's install shop). If it does need to stay there, you will need a good interface adaptor like the Audio Control LC6 + bass remote to get the balance of the system up and running properly.

It's a tough call.
Tell us what you get with the 1800$
With the price of all this new interfacing and such god forbid it might be better to get the package and just buy aftermarket speakers.
I'm a fan of newer OEM decks.
