interference noise in subwoofer
 

Ok this is the weirdest problem I have ever had with any install.

Just installed my clarion 12 in my pickup and even without the truck running I have a lot of noise coming from the sub like some kind of interference from something. I've only ever had noise problems with different installs from the engine running like alternator whine and such.

It is a constant buzzing sound. And when I play a cd it picks up even more noise just from the disc spinning in the player. I have triple checked all my connections and grounds especially. Have tried a couple different pairs of rca jacks with no reduction in this buzzing noise. I am only running the one phoenix gold sub amp and my mids are powered off the deck.

I'm beginning to think there is something wrong with the deck because when I open the faceplate like I was going to eject the cd once the plate drops and the lcd display goes out all the buzzing noise stops. But as soon as I push the faceplate back into display mode again the buzzing starts again. My deck is a Pioneer DEH-P490IB. It's only a couple of months old.

Any ideas?

My brother has the same problem, he even took it into the place where he got his car audio installed, and they couldn't figure out the problem.
I think its just an annoyance and nothing more.
But still I hope you find out how to get that fixed.

try grounding your deck and rca's

Ok I took the deck out and tried a Kenwood I had layin around and I'm still getting noise through the sub when the volume is turned right down and a cd is playing in the deck. The sub is picking up all the motions of the cd spinning. At least thats what it sounds like. So then I tried grounding the rcas coming from my pioneer and it made no difference whatsoever to the noise. I turned the gain down on the amp and the noise is not so loud now but I have less bass. I think it might be a problem with the amp actually. I guess the only thing to try now would be a different amplifier. Thanks for the suggestions.

Is the amp screwed down to metal? If so try putting a peice of wood between the amp and the metal to isolate it.

Some amps don't like to be screwed down to metal.

Man it's like you have telepathy. That was my exact next move. It is screwed down to the floor through metal. And it just dawned on me that I have never mounted that amp to anything but wood except for in this vehicle. Today I am going to unscrew it and see if this cures the problem. Will post up my results later today.

well it turns out there is something wrong with my phoenix gold amp. It's picking up noise for some reason. Not sure why. Went and bought a fosgate mono amp and it works, with very minimal engine noise. Barely noticeable.

Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with my phoenix gold amp? It sounds 10x better than any other amp I've used for subs. It was working fine in my last install, now it's not?
