iPod to amp (no HU or matrix) safe?
 

First, the obligatory apologies:
1. I'm not Canadian (but this seems like a quality forum);
2. I'm new to car audio.

I want the following set up: iPod to amp with no head unit or matrix to reduce cost and partially because I want as little after-market stuff in it as possible in my classic car.

I just purchased, but can return, a Crunch PZI 100.2 that has Input Level Control from 0.2 to 5V. Can I use the iPod at .2v with little risk to the amp?

I dont see why you cant do it. I used to have a cd player that i just hooked up to a amp and never had problems. All you have to do is hook up a switch to remotely turn on teh amp when u want to listen to the ipod and ur good to go then.

Have a look at the Blaubunkt line of amplifiers. This series of amplifier comes with a AUX input on the amplifier specifically for this application.

I have done a similar thing. In my saturn I laid down 2 home stereo towers haha and put in a rock foz 600 watt amp. Anyways we didnt have a headunit so we just put a cd player straight to the amp. It's pretty much the same idea. Just used the volume control on the cd player to control the volume at the amp, obviously. with and iPod you should be able to do the same thing.

It works find and sounds great. Perhaps I should have said that I may have ruined a 25-year old amp that came with the car in this configuration and wanted to avoid that with the new one. In the last day, when a loud song peaked, the amp shut off for about 5 minutes. I'll read up on the fail safe systems. Thanks for the answers.

Well either that last 25 year old amp you had was just on it's last legs or you might of had the music cranked a little too much, it's hard to tell. With a newer amp though you shouldn't have too much of a problem, best of luck!
