it weighs 369 pounds, can that be mounted in a MDF box, I'm just worried the MDF would crack, one way to solve that is have a support peice holding up the rear of the sub inside the box

who has first hand experience with one of these subs? it must be very hard to work with as its very heavy and also how much is it worth?

man that sub is not practical. I would never buy it only if i had lots of money that i could wipe my ass with 100 dollar bills.

THen I would consider it to try for fun lol.

I'm sure most cars would not thank you for the 300lb sub lol.

mtx site mentions Escalade owners, Navigator drivers, and Hummer crews so they can take the weight better then any car would.

Then there is the problem of coming up with 6,000 w rms, that needs some big amps and the vehical needs to be able to keep with that load, also not easy

would $10,000 be enough to cover all the costs needed for one of those? sub, amp, box, power upgrades to vehical etc

I am probably the only dealer on the board that has actually had hands on with this sub. It was here on demo for a couple of weeks late this summer. It does indeed weigh that much and it must be rear supported. It is best to make a steel or aluminum mount that bolts to the backside of the driver for this application. The front baffle board should also be made of at least 2" materials to ensure that is does not flex and can carry the weight.

$ wise, $10K is a start at powering this beast properly. I would look at adding a substantial amount to that to ensure that it operates properly.

doubt it... but I can tell you that 10k worth of gear would out do the jackhammer.

Ha Ha true enough. I can picture the conversation already. I have a 15" sub. pff big deal I have an 18", HA screw you both I have a 375LBS 22" Jackhammer. Ok you win. Like you said its a D&^k measuring contest.

same with people buying escalades, hummers, navigators etc, those people might like to have the biggest, baddest sub around, doesn't matter if it gets outperformed by a wall of subs at a fraction the cost

The Jackhammer has done it's goal once again: it has gotten more people looking at MTX, the MTX website, and what other products MTX has to offer for the average customer.

I can agree with that... I'm sure MTX didn't think anyone was seriously going to use this thing, it's no differnet that automotive prototypes... they rarely go into production, they just make them for the engineers, and the designers to go nuts on, then they run them through the autosalons, and generally chop them up...

it's useless to me as well, but as a marketing ploy, it was quite successfull

Its called the halo affect.

Its very common in the automotive feild. Ford's most recent attempt would be the Ford GT, toyota did it with the prius.

that installation was a disgrace to the hobby, and industry...

they tried to run like 8000 watts, and I'd be willing to bet that the stock electrical system they (i guess figured was good enough) had in that car was probably good for about 1200-1300w max... what a joke...

did I hear the guy say it was up to 130 dB? must go way louder then that, my car can do 130 dB with only a small 10" sub and 500w, something not right
but I do know the wax in my ears don't fall out although my nose hairs get itchy

Actually ....

StreetWires 1/0 gauge wire, fuse blocks, distribution blocks, fuses, RCAs, and 6 capacitors were also used in the install to transfer and maintain every amp, watt, and volt of the car's upgraded electrical system. An Ohio Generator 200 amp alternator was installed replacing the stock 90 amp unit and 4 batteries help to ensure the JackHammer woofer is getting enough juice.

does it actually put out though? I heard these things don't get that loud..

I knew about the caps and betteries, didn't know they upgraded the alt... still though, I still doubt it was getting enough power to sustain it for more than half a minute...

for 3000w you're drawing about 190amps, 8kw is a big leap from there...

so Actually, like I said, not even close to being able to deliver the 8kw they said they were, regardless of how many caps they had, the alt just wouldn't be able to recharge the batteries...

I think i'd agree that they do not have enough power for that subwoofer. In my opinion it is an awesome install because it looks so massive but I would never want that in my vehicle unless I had a few alternators, lots of batteries, and some massive wires. I guess when I think about how much room that thing would occupy for its output I wouldn't even want it in my vehicle. I changed my mind, it is kind of stupid.
