I'm wondering if JBL amps are any good. If so, which model would I want to power a pair of infinity kappa perfect 12" subs. I'm also wondering if there will be a sound quality difference between wiring it at 2ohms vs. 4 ohms. Thanks

ahh.....I was wondering the same question a while ago....ill look for the post....

on page 6 there is 1 topic about jbl amps, and 1 about subs for the jbl amps.

I have heard of people running 2 12" perfects off of the 1200.1 amp, but that is major overkill. if u want 2 12's, go with the 600.1

The perfect is only rated at 350 watts rms, and a 600.1 jbl amp will make 700 rms, and they will be loud because there sensitivity is 96db I believe (the perfects) I am not to sure about the wiring SQ though, I would imagine it wouldnt matter as long as the amp was stable...

Not necessarily overkill... I ran a couple of Perfects off a 1200.1 for some time, and they never had a problem thermally with that amount of power. Now this may sound hypocritical because I eventually did end up blowing them, but that was because I had them in a ported box and "accidentally" dropped a note way below tuning frequency, and they pretty much ripped apart. So... if you are planning on going ported, the 1200.1s lack of a subsonic filter may be of concern.

I'd imagine the RMS rating is a little shy of real-world values... They will and have taken more than 350 watts RMS for me on a daily basis. As for their sensitivity rating, you have to read the fine print. It's rated as "in-car sensitivity," which is hugely misleading. Actual numbers I think are around 85-86dB if I remember correctly. As far as deciding between SVC and DVC, it doesn't really matter in the case of the 600.1 or 1200.1 because they are both 1 ohm stable, and both do the same amount of power at 1 ohm or 2 ohms.

The perfects will handle a little bit more power than what they say they will. And also i personaly think they sound a little muddied or sloppy without running at least 500-600 a peice to them. DANGER...1200.1 does not have a subsonice filter like ^ said. Either don't crank it on those types of songs, see if you cant find an external, or tune your box deep as hell (like 20hz). I didn't do any of the 3 to my setup and it works fine... but the max is a little sturdier than a perfect... anywho. git r don

Sensitivity ratings usually don't mean chit anyway... infinity just found a way to make them even more rediculous....

Hey, just thought I would show you this, and anyone else looking for a subsonic filter.

They make this in both 20hz and 30hz HP at 12db/octive... its not very steep, but its better than nothing at all if you want to play it a little safer in those ported boxes.
