lack of subsonic filter (destroyed 2 JL 12W4's without it)
I always wonder how important a subsonic filter is especially in a ported box. Are you sure it was the lack of an SSF destroying your JLs? </font>
The BP1200 without ssf did not blow up the subs.
The user who decided to pump frequencies below his box's tuning frequency is to blame.

I suspect subsonic filters were brought into car audio by installers who were blamed for blown subs by their customer just shortly after leaving the shop and having this conversation:

"So you wanted your bass loud at this frequency so don't play anything too low or you'll do damage. And definitely don't play that sine wave tone CD you have...."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, where's the remote?"

lol, I agree, besides I heard that you can get cheap inline rca subsonic filteres, that or you can get something like a phoenix gold bass cube that also lets you increase the bass boost alot more with a built in subsonic filter.

When the subwoofer plays notes too far below the tuning frequency it tends to throw out like mad dog. thus causing ripped spiders/surrounds, and voice coild misalignment. </font>
A SSF is only important if you don't know what you're doing.

I have a 600.1 and have never had a problem with the lack of a ssf.

For some reason people seem to think that if your box is tuned to like 32Hz and you play a 31Hz note then you'll blow your sub. Which is totally false.

It is a rolloff, meaning the further away from tuning the more of a problem it becomes.

So just tune your box properly for the type of music you listen to and don't get crazy with the volume and you will never have a problem.

Nothing is worse than people who misuse equipment and then say it's a crappy product.
