My bud has 2 kicker 12cvr's in a sealed box i installed in his neon and it sounds pretty good.
I built another box for 1 12cvr but ported, and a large size box (about 3cu ft) and it's all SPL, no SQ at all, but that's what he wanted....
I prefer the 2 in a sealed box.
BUT if you want tight bass, look at image dynamics, my single idmax rocks my socks even at 400w rms... in a small ported box.... awesome for SQ and SPL...

JL? I'd say they're mid line... theyre not SPL hunters or SQ killers but they sound good. Audiophile? no way, but they sound better than your sony/low end mtx, blaupunkt stuff.

K, no to Sony.....sorry I just can't recomend Sony to anyone even if I don't like the person.

The Kicker CVR needs a fairly good sized box to preform it's best but it's well worth the loss of space. I have 1 12" CVR that hits in the 130s off 400 WRMS in a prefab ported box. I think it was about $200-250 in a prefab kicker box. What does JL offer for that price?

i've run both kicker and JL
kicker's were 12" L5's and the JL was a 10w6v2
IMO JL was a better sounding driver than the kicker. output was better for the kicker but it had larger cone area so that's not really a fair comparison.

That's cause the L5 was/is junk....a W6 IMO is more comparable to a Solo or Solo L7 Of course im biased because I own 2 15" Solo's (round) and would NEVER get rid of them.

I dunno I like Kicker, I have a lot more experience with Kicker and the last time I heard a JL sub it was 2 12" W0's in a HUGE ported box and they sounded like ***.

well the W0's are the lowest driver JL sells. its a price point in the market that everyone has to cover, you can't expect a budget driver to compare to their higher end ones (W6's etc).
everyone's tastes are different in drivers, case in point

I'm pretty happy with my CVR 15's.
I've only got 380 wrms each, and its too loud for me. But i run free-air, so i wouldn't go more than rated power.
Can't compare directly with an equivalent JL, But i have a pair of JL 6W0's from my old car.
Made pretty heavy duty mid-bass in my old cavalier.
Didn't feel like chopping up the door panel in my new car, but i miss the mid-bass.

First off, W0s are complete junk. If this is done for a shop have some pride and at least put in some decent gear. W0s are so overpriced and what you get for the money is garbage. I would take the kicker anyday. And to the person who said L5s are junk you have no idea what you are talking about whatsoever...the L5s are the exact same as the L7s from a couple years ago and to be honest I don't own them but I owned some old L7s and they were really nice woofer even though they were used when I got them and beat like nobodys business. The L5s and L7s are very comperable...the L7s are slightly better but to say the L5 is junk and L7 is great is retarded because the woofer are so close to equal it isn't even funny.
Personally if I were you and I was SUPER POOR I would get less than 4 subs and get ones that are half decent not the bottom of the line garbage. If you are not super poor then spring the money and at least get some W3s or some of the mid-range kicker products because at least those woofers are not an embarassment

I've used 12w1's, 12w3's and 12w6's, obviously I loved the sixes, but that was before kids, mortgage, etc.... Even the 12w1's in a sealed box in a 91 civic hachback were surprisingly loud, 1.5cuft per sub with 150 watts per sub off an old kenwood. The shop I work for doesnt carry jl, but kicker, sony and alpine. I just started with them so I havent really pushed to see how much of a discount I can get. Its only a part time gig, basically to pay for my gear, so we;ll see how it goes. My full time job pays for the rest of life.
