Is it just me?!

Hi, new here and just ordered a Pioneer 3300 video head unit for my 07 Sierra Ext cab truck. Bought for the BT, backup camera and hopefully better sound . Recently had the blown front factory speakers replaced with some mtx component 6.5s. and they sound almost good enough for my aging ears, except for the flabby poorly damped bass.
So, my question here is, if I were to run the Pioneer front channel to the comp speakers using the built in HP filter and use the rear channels bridged to an older 8 in Kenwood I was happy with in a custom console box, what should I expect? It seems almost blasphemous to use the onboard amps in most circles, but I'm not interested in sharing my music with the other lane, just tighter bass and clean sound in the front seat. Are the built in amps just too weak? I'm all ears.

the rear channels will out about 40 RMS combined and I'm of the opinion that it wont be enough juice to really get the sub moving. What I'd consider at that point is a 5 or 6" Tang Band Sub or something akin to that which is probably a lot more feasible.

Thanks Dilatory for your response, first I've heard of the TB speakers, very good ratings, but the 6 inch are out of stock, may be the 5 1/4 would be sufficient, have to be carefull with the box design but it looks like what I'm looking for. Then again, there is alot more choice with a relatively small amp and one of the new 8 in shallow, small box subs available, so its the TB with the Pioneer powering it or a small 8 inch sub amp combo.

Getting a smaller driver is not going to help make more bass, regardless of the power available.

I would not try to bridge the Pioneer deck. If you are bent on using the deck power, use a DVC or two woofers.

Thanks Dukk I hear ya, I see the light, I am going to install the deck and see if it has enough jam for the front component speakers, save my dough and pick a nice sub and amp combo maybe a good 4 ch to run the sub and fronts, and make use of those preouts. Thanks for the input

Ok so I'm stubborn, just ordered a 5.25 Tang Band sub, and designed a ported box with Winisd, got a .5 cu ft box, 1.85 in vent 8.86 in long, this tunes the box to 38 hz and apparently fairly flat to 36 hz. Efficiency is low and powerhandling is low. So i will bridge the rear channels, run the LP filter use the front channels for the separates with the Hp filter and call me crazy, hope it has enough volume without clipping. Hey if it doesnt work, it will make a great sub for my pc which is what most do with it.
Will report on satisfaction level

Somewhere around Page6 of the Installation Manual for your deck it shows to either connect both sets of rear speaker leads to two drivers or you can connect a single 2ohm load to the RR (purple) set and leave the RL (green) set open.

I do not recommend attempting to bridge the purple and green sets of wires.

Right, I see that, the deck is actually arriving today so will be sure to read up and or use 60-80 watt amp. This is a minimalist project/quest , more with less, kind of an experiment. We all need hobbies right?

So the unit just arrived, and I see that I will be adding a single 4 ohm to the purple set, maybe should have ordered a pair for optimum performance dang.

Update on the minimalist project. Well, I got the Pioneer avh 3300 up and running , steering wheel adaptor, lan interconnect, got the one without the Onstar capability, and back up camera, bluetooth is amazing , autoconnects and works seamlessly with my BB. And my little console mounted ported sub box sounds amazing connected to one rear channel of the the head unit, until I start the engine and drive away.
Ok guys, have a good giggle
Minimalist Shminimalist ,that Pioneer sounds so good I need to let her rock, just ordered a 4 ch amp, 85 rms a channel I want to connect the little TB to one of the rear channels and play with the input sens, as these things can die if pushed.
If and or when that happens, the box I built with a new port will fit a nice little 8 inch DVC, DUKK you can have and extra giggle on me.!
