just starting out
 

hey guys i am completely new to this, i have a few friends with pretty bumpin systems.
I have a vehicle right now and i get my licence in november but i want to put a good system in the car.
its a 1990 dodge shadow(dont laugh got it free from the parents)
i`m thinking about spending 1500$ or so and i already have a head unit.
I also heard that two 10 inch subs would pound better and have better sound quality then two 12 inch subs.
i dont know how or why this would be true but just thought i would throw that one out there.
so any suggestions on what i should i do and what i would need?:)

Most comparisons of size vs size are done by someone who has only ever heard a couple systems.
Usually, larger subs will have an easier time hitting the lowest notes, stuff that is hardly audible and you feel it more.
Smaller subs are usually easier to play higher and blend with your speakers.
Ported boxes are louder than sealed boxes, assuming the same equipment and a proper box.

I dont remember what sizes shadows use, so hopefully someone can help you out with that.

$1500 is a decent budget, especially if you have a head unit already.

Your going to need to make a couple choices right away though.
A lot of the people on here only run front speakers, because it is easier to tune and because most of us don't sit in the back seats.

Assuming you do the same, you will want a 2 channel amp that produces around 50-100 watts per channel. = $50-200
A pair of component speakers for the front stage. = $100-400+
A mono amp to run your subs, probably around 300-500 watts will be a decent starter. = $200-500
Subs and a box... depending how crazy you want to get, you could spend your whole budget here, but figure at least $300 for two subs and a prefab box.

You might want to try contacting some of the vendors on the site, and seeing what kind of package deal they will put together for you.

I see you are located in Alberta, so you might also get some of us Albera guys to help you out, depending where you are.

also i was looking into getting clarion speakers subs and amps.
dose anyone have any experience with this company and can you tell me if there a good company to deal with.
i was also concidering alpine.
one more question would a 15inch sub be better then lets say two 10inch or two 12.:dunno:

It all depends on what you want and how you like your sounds.

As stated about, generally, the larger the subwoofer, the more noticeable the lower frequencies will be. You will also be able to feel them better.

If you listen to rock, you would most likely be happier with 2 10's or 2 12's(in the right box).

If you listen to rap, you would most likely love a 15".

You are better off to go with a quality smaller sub that a crappy monster-sized sub in my opinion.

As for your question about Clarion and Alpine...

I have heard some negative things about Clarion but have never tried them so I can't say too much.

I have run Alpine in the past and was happy with their products. They have a very clean sound in my opinion although they are overpriced at times (particularly their amplifiers.)

well my friend just mentioned to me i should go with either earth quake or alpine and i know people that have both and the earth quake blows anything out of the water i have heard befor.

but earth quake is expensive and an american company only so i would have to get the stuff shipped from cali.

also whats the best way to stop things from vibrating in your car.

Depends on what part of the car is rattling. You can buy dynamat or another sound dampening material. It lines what ever you stick it to and absorbs the vibration preventing a rattle.

Another trick I have used it to take double sided tape to trip pieces. You could try carpet underlay but it does deteriorate into basically dust eventually (you won't have the car by then most likely).

And if your roof flexes like mine, you're pooched....*working on a fix*
