first off, go to your car and crank the bass all the way down, and the trebel all the way up, and see if the volume can go decently high before it starts to distort.if it goes like 1/4 of the way and your speakers start to distort or crackle, get new speakers and a deck.

and what kinda sound are you looking for? all bass so you go def, or just enough bass to shake the car a bit.

Welcome to your future addiction.

Start with a nice head unit that won't require you get crossovers etc. You can keep it for years to come and it'll be the heart of your system. Then get a decent pair of coax's for your front stage and a sub for the rear. Get a decent amp out of the classified area here or just talk to someone like Smartass. Lots of guys here have dealt with him and he's got a some decent new stuff for good prices.

Wait a little while until you know where you want to go with your system until you drop big dough on the upgrades from that point.

I am completely addicted to Car audio now. Started off with getting a new head unit. My stock deck wouldn't play cd's properly, went to futureshop and bought a Pioneer DEH-3800MP. Loaded it in myself. Then my friend bought 2 12's for his 4runner, I heard those, and I needed bass. The rest is history. Spent well over $1200 now, and I am not done :(

Oh man, ADdiction threads, I started off in CAr Audio literally 13yrs ago, My first system, Mtx Road Thunder's in a Ported box, with a Sherwood 150watt amp, Pioneer Knob style Deck, and 8ga wire running it :P Like said above WELCOME TO YOUR NEW ADDICTION!!! I have spent thousands on setups, and sold them almost right away!

well rsgibb, I had a 1990 mazda 626 and found that 2 12" alpine type r's in a 4 cubicfoot box tuned to 45 hertz with at least 1000 watts alpine type s components and a alpine 4 channel amp worked really really well
