hm. Sooooo you don't count the RF MP3 changer from about 5 years ago or the Clarion Auto PC which had a slot in the face?

:D

Brad-S.A. 02-04-2005 03:00 PM

No I don't considering them. One is a pc not a HEAD UNIT and The RF MP3 Changer would have to be disc because 5 years ago SD technology was not around maybe in starting stages but thats about it. These decks are also $200-350 US. It would be nice to have my whole collection on SD cards and just swap them in and out.(No moving parts, no skipping for SPL. Ipod's are ok but it still has an internal hard drive that may go for a crap.

I should say they are now affordable.

I just use the aux in on my clarion and plug my Rio Chiba into that.

Why would you not consider the autopc a headunit?

I agree though this is a great idea...

ok, so you have never heard of the Auto PC. It was in fact a headunit. It was also a phone, navigation, and a ton of other junk that ran on a Windows platform - thus the 'PC' tag..

And the RF piece uses MultiMedia cards so...

Sony has had memory stick for years now as well as other brands have had removable media in their decks.............

jvc will raise the bar when they make a product that isn't full of suck and dies either out of box or a few months after being installed

but thats just my opinion, havnt really had a good experience with jvc other than it has a decent pricepoint.

Buffdaddy 02-08-2005 07:08 AM

my JVC (sh 909) deck has been running strong for 4 years now.

I'd only trade it for a high end eclipse or alpine, but for the price its head and shoulders above whats on the market value wise.

Ex-Maxx 02-08-2005 08:22 AM

I wouldn't hesitate to go JVC again...

My SX-980 is running great; no problems whatsoever. I think it will outlive its extended warranty... Originally bought as a "cheap" mp3 deck to get me by, I think it's gonna be around for a while longer.

My old SX-570 which was previosly mine, now in my dad's mustang, is still tip top. Only series I remember having problems with is the old Kameleon decks. The motorized face was a piece of crapola...

Yup,
The disco light display was pretty flamboyant.

Dereck Waller 02-08-2005 08:35 AM

People prejudge it because it is inexpensive. But I think the KDS-G800 was a real bargain and had some great features.

Merlin 02-08-2005 10:23 AM

its not prejudged cause it was inexpensive. i've sold it before in two stores and have just had a not so super experience with it. either displays crapping out right out of the box. or customers coming back shortly after install or a few months later with it either dead or skipping cds or burnt out displays. switched to panasonic for the entry level line and never did one warranty on any of the pannys i sold. the only time i like to see customers come back is when they want to buy more stuff. not gripe about what they have and accuse me of ripping them off cause of a product issue. its no fun.

I guess you have had bad luck, but Every jvc product that I've ever purchased has out lasted my enthusiasm. I have televisions, vcrs, dvd players, boomboxes(pc 550) from 1984-85, mini stereos etc... that have all been bullet proof from day 1. I just don't like their car audio cosmetics otherwise I would have no problem buying their product. Just my experience.

Merlin 02-08-2005 11:29 AM

ok i'll rephrase my statement again. my beef is with jvc car. thier other products i havnt had problems with. i liked thier tv's quite a bit when i was selling them and even considered buying one. but i dont watch enough tv to justify it. thier other consumer electronics are decent. the only part of jvc i've had issues with is thier car line.

RedZone 02-08-2005 12:01 PM

i have a jvc deck in my moms car. i gave it to her because when i would turn my stereo up the bass from my sub would cause teh deck to skip...

MIKEONE 02-08-2005 12:11 PM

yesterday, we had a customer who wasnt happy with a kdar800, so we swapped it for a alpine cda9830...the difference was night and day..sq, power output, there was no comparison. the customer looked at the alpine but said he bought the jvc on price and that he didnt think it would be that different, boy was he wrong.
