Exclamation What the heck is going on "Amps on Ebay"??

I"m looking at old amps and their prices are just going higher and higher. Could it be spring time or is it just people pumping up the auctions.
I got an almost brand new Hifonics viii 2 months ago and I thought I paid too much 400.00 Canadian. Take a look at this auction.

Why are people bidding early? Don't they know that they are just bringing up the price prematurely...

P.S. Anyone have a nice Hifonics Zeus or Boltar vii last revision?

Pretty pricey, for sure. My buddy had an Atlas white and red one, is that version VII? Tank of an amp, he might still have it.

Also have to remember, some people have their buddies ride the price up. They don't mind paying only the fees on a lost sale that never happens. Goal is to get the price up to where they want it. Bit of a game. Ebay is scary. Real honest deals are super hard to come by there. I've seen people pay for car parts that are cheaper if bought full retail at the stealership.

Yes Tom I think you are correct.
Unfortunately Ebay is one of the only way to find a specific item which othewise would not be available.
P.S. are you guys having any warehouse sales for the lines you have?

Nope, we don't believe in warehouse sales. But do look out for the shows we're doing this year as we're going to be having some killer specials at these events with our Dealers. These shows are still being worked on details wise, but check out some of the information here:

TREO Engineering Canada Presents Toronto's FREE Series of DBDrag's for the Spring/Summer/Fall of 2006

One other thing about buying old gear. Make sure you know what you're getting into. Electronics die out with use due to the heat cycles, exposure to the elements, etc. Sometimes a deal isn't a deal...... it's an expensive paperweight. This is not to say you shouldn't go old school, but if you can, check the pieces out carefully....... for example, send off to Chris at SS Electronics and have him check it out to make sure it's still good. Chris sponsors this forum and his banner is kicking around here somewhere. Make sure you're not throwing your cash away.

Cheers,

thanks Tom, I'll look you up at the events.
With regards to the old school amps, so far I've been lucky.
My collection has grown to about 20 old school amplifiers and it continues.
The wife has given up on me...hehe.
I have gone the route of buying locally from some people and that has also worked out. Hopefully I will have more soon I got a contact that might have some new old stock. My eyes will probably do a Fred Flinstone and pop out when it see them, and of course drool lots of drool.
I'm working on my brothers 90 VW Golf and hopefully it will be done in time for the shows. It will have a couple of Hifonics VII amps etc in it so that should be good. As for my car it's always under construction.
On a side note I'm really looking forward in talking to someone about the treo line of subs and speakers. Amps well you know I have enough and I'm sure that the Treo amps are nice and good I'm going to stick to what I know for now......
I think I'll hook up my Zapco Z300's this spring and get them going again....
See you at the show.....
P.S. Nice plug for SS Electronics, hehe I know Rick and Chris nice guys and honest. They have worked on some items for me.... Keep up the good work guys.
L.

Here is another example of someone paying just a bit too much in my opinion.
The seller didn't think it would hit his reserve.
I'm not arguing that it's not a good amp or the condition is not up to spec yet come one, I would say 400 u.s. to 450 u.s. max.
I guess the buyer really wanted it....

Lightbulb

It's Spring. People are waking up to car audio again. Just look at all the "I need a box/amp/woofer" posts starting up again.

This means more bidders and more desperate bidders. October to February are the best times to cruise ebay for car audio.
