Larger variety of drivers in USA? seems so...

Why do you see all these 'independant' or smaller companies that produce great innovative looking drivers all over caraudio.com forsale section... but more or less mainstream products that everyone knows on this board?
Im not knocking anyone or definatly not this forum... its the only one I personally use -- seems more tight knit and localized =) Maybe just because as I said, its the only one ive become familiar with to a degree.

But back to my question... I see all these exotic name brand woofers like soundsplinter etc. etc... They look really nice - like actual car audio guys designing them to their specific needs and applying their knowledge.

Perhaps these smaller 'indy' (if thats what you wanna call em) companies are as widely available here in Canader?

Thanks

It's because of the population difference...if you know what I mean. ;)

Soundsplinter was actually suppose to be TCsounds way of getting their own products to the public. TCsounds ended up just selling directly to the public and soundsplinter became a distinct company.

For those who dont know, TCsounds is a manufacturer of subwoofers, they build them in house for other compagnies such as eclipse, memphis and others. If you look at the sounsplinters and compare them to what TCsound offers you will see they look very similar.

What happens is people in the states with money can come up with their own specs and have some speaker manufacturer build it to their liking.

Other then sound splinter, definitly stereo integrety and the new sundown amps come to mind. They were just guys who decided to start up their compagny and are doing very well, none the less they have someone else build the products for them.

We could do it to if we had the money. Beyond audio was a canadian started compagny that was doing just that.

There's also Mach5 Audio.
Mach 5 Audio

Even though they don't have any super-potent drivers yet, Mark and Loyd L. are supposely cooking something up.

However, I think his real question is why more people here don't discuss offerings from small indy companies...not why there aren't more indy Canadian companies.

I think its just people dont know about them, also the question always remains, how to import it here. Concerns of warranty hassle and border charges.

Not to mention no one knows how long they will be around.

If you are curious at to what I mean check out caraudio.com Classifieds section in the first 1-4pages which are all from the last 12hrs. You will see very much different brand offerings then you will see if you check the last 50pages of our classifieds forum - Ive checked back that far.

We just dont have the same volume as someone has mentioned. And not only that, I believe they have a very much larger variety and availability to choose from; and population plays into it also as someone said.

population is it! 10 times the market will open all kinds of opportunities and possibilities...not to mention the American mentality is very automobile driven, so anything to do with cars has a fighting chance of making it...with so many car lovers and disposable income available.
