Lo-fi = hi-fi competition...

Anyone interested in trying to start a competition to see who can make the cheapest crappiest speakers sound the best?
Perhaps pick a known very very Lo-fi brand of speaker, and use all of our hi fi equipment to see who can make it sound the best?
Has this been done before?
What would be the best lo-fi brand to do it with?

I'm thinking it would cost a whole $50.00 in speakers and subs and an afternoon with a case of beer to be eligible for entry...
Anyone in for it?! We could sit around bragging about what ISN'T in your vehicle. :) In BC if anyone's interested.

Call it the "best of the worst competition"

I'd love to hold one up here just for the hell of it.
Winner gets a band new Lanzar sub or something. I think it would basically be a good excuse for a road trip and a reason to drink in Whistler.

A couple of years ago JordyO proposed the Xcess Cargo series where one was allowed to spend, and had to show receipts for, something like $200 max for gear purchased solely at Xcess Cargo.

I liked that idea - it let people choose whatever system parts and configuration they wanted as long as they kept under the price cap.

WhistlerSound 05-22-2008 12:56 AM

that could work. As long as people kept it honest, and didn't get friends to write reciepts for rediculous discounts.
I was hoping that people could just substitute crappy speakers for the fine tuned good ones they had in their setups and try to re-tune to as good as it gets.
I like the $ cap idea however...
found a set of 3way components for 20 bucks that might do the trick, if i found a $30 sub to go with them.

^ Yeah, thus why people had to have store receipts for the gear. Getting yer buddy to "give you a deal" on a set of Focal comps wouldn't be allowed ;)

prob better to make a list of the shitty brands to use only and then make a money limitation like one for 500$ system then one for 1000$
