local sterio shop retardation?

so i went to my local stereo shop and asked to hear some components. all they had was some clarions and some kaptions hooked up. so they started talking to me about amps and stuff and they tried to hook me with a set of clarion 4x6's with a 45 watt rms and said they will out preform anything in that price range (higher 200's). the thing that pisses me off most is that they said that any 4 channel amp will only have 45 watts rms anyway and the only way they could have have 200 wats or something crazy like that is if lighting struck it. please correct me if im wrong as im new to car stereos but the bottom line is they jsut told me a bunch of bullshit right?

ohh ok i guess that what they were talking about. i was thinking of bridging an amp to run a set of components

Thats not true at all what they told you. I have a JL Audio 450/4 which makes 150x2 front and 75x2 rear.

if they tried selling you a 4x6 over a comp set then they are full of it on that end, the comps will always sound better! and with a comp set you just need to run a two channel amp.

army4ever 04-28-2008 10:30 PM

thats really funny since this place specializes in selling jl gear lol

yeah it was actually a clarion component set but still definitely not great

most 4 ch amps tho dont make more then 100rms at 4 ohm
this is cus you dont need huge power for the freq that 4 channel amps are mostly ran at poweing door speakers.

like all this ebay specials of 600 watt tweeters. are plain old junk and also put 600watts on a set of tweetes and it will tear or head off and will not be nice sounding on the ears. the most that i have ever seen my self or heard on door speakers or comps is 125 rms and it was hella loud and to me is was clear and clean

Are you sure they were not explaining that any headunits 4 channel amp does not do more than 45 watts.
