Looking to buy a new setup. What should i get?

Hey guys, its been a long time since i have been on this site, or even looked at anything car audio related. So that being said, I'm looking to get back into the game.

My old subs ( 2 kicker L7's 2002 model ) crapped out on me about..2 years ago. i was running them on a kicker kx1200.1 amp.

So what i want to do now is keep the same amp and buy new subs, I'm looking at 2 cerwin vega vmax 12" right now. what do you guys think? also how would these subs compare to my old L7's?
What other sub options do you guys recommend?

i listen to all types of music and SQ is important to me, but i also want heart thumping bass.

the system will be going into a 1997 Lincoln town car so i have lots of space.
budget is about $500-$1000 total tax in. box and two subs.

As I understand it, that Kicker amp does the following if you're thinking about selections to help this guy out.

300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms, or 1200 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm)

So match up your driver selections with those load factors in mind.

Well, if i went with the L7's would i not need another amp? also what advantages does the L7 have over the cerwin vega vmax woffers? are they worth paying the exrta money?
If i went with the L7's i think i would be well over my budget if i would need another amp.

Oh and thanks junkinthetrunk for clearing that up.

you'd just have to get dual 4 ohm voice coil l7s and wire them parallel for a 1 ohm final load...then they'd get 600 watts each. Did you like the sound of the l7s? You can always add more power later if you want...600 watts to each would get you within 3 dBs of giving them 1000 watts each...noticeable but hardly a big deal. As far as the vegas...great sub especially for the money...they sound great, get loud and look nice too.

theres many options under 1000 for sub and box. i assume you have all the wiring needed to power your kicker amp... check the classifieds on here for some great used equipment. Are you looking to stay with 2 12"s or are you open to trying a single 10,12,15 ect?

I loved the sound of the L7, but i want to try another brand of sub.
i would like to go min 12", i am open to 15".
so basically what im loking for is a sub or a pair of subs that will give me equal or more bass then my old L7's, but without going to another amp.

Why just new? I have a single 12 that will out perform those 2 vegas.
Are u buying new for the month warranty? Ill give u a 6 month warranty if needed. I wouldn't over look some great deals that can be found on the forum.
Just my 02 cents.

Hmm thanks for the input. I'll look into some used gear. So then, you say you have one sub that will out perform the Vegas. What sub would that be and also will that sub match up with my amp? I'm open to anything as long as it's 12" and above and within my budget. I'm just trying to get the best sound possible for my budget. I blew my factory sub so that's why I'm on the hunt for something quick. I'm dying over here with no bass.
