The player itself will be 1 din. The "brain" size depends on the brand. I know the pioneer one is quite a bit larger than other ones I have seen, but you could easily put it under a seat, for example. If I was going to go the in dash dvd route in my car, I would probably go with an Eclipse. Their prices dropped US$500 on a couple of models which make them even more attractive.

Most of the units with DVD built in have a hideaway "brain" which can be easily installed under the seat. Three best sellers would be the Pioneer 6500, Clarion vrx935 and the Alpine IVAD900.Clarion and Pioneer are touch screen control (think about how retarded that is.Would you wipe your greasy fingers allover your home tv?) Pioneer is the cheapest of the three and looks it. Good price point option. Clarion is your next step up and well worth the $3-400 price jump(bigger, better screen, 4V preouts, Dolby Digital loop back capabilities. The IVAD900 is the big daddy of the indash market. Most of the screens average 275,000-325,000 pixels in the display. Alpine is over a million. MMM...beautifull screen. Imagine a home television compared to a high definition set. Then imagine twice that. Then consider how silly it is to have a frickin' tv in yourdash and buy a 7990.
