Looking for a good 1 or 1.5 farad cap.. any suggestion?

Title say it all...:lol_hitti

Sassmaster 07-07-2006 05:13 PM

They're all the same. they may look different and they all say they're the best, but the truth is that there are only 2 factories in the world that are set up to manufacture 1+farad capacitors in any quantity.

I had a monster cap, and the LED display circuit board said Rockford Fosgate on it. (of course there was a sticker over that)

^^^ very true

Dobermann 07-07-2006 05:35 PM

Oh

Good thing to know

So any cap is good just get the one you like right?

mao 07-07-2006 05:40 PM

if you looking for a one for looks as well. poweracoustik has one with a blue neon in the middle. The light fickers with the bass, and it gives out an awesome glow into the car if the seat is down. the one i have is a 2.0 farad, and it looks awesome at night

Dobermann 07-07-2006 06:39 PM

How long last a cap?

alucard8008 07-07-2006 06:56 PM

How long does a capacitor last? How often do I have to replace it? At working voltage, meaning charged, a 1-Farad capacitor will last approximately 300,000 hours. The best part about using them in a car is that they are continually connected to the power source, which is good for repairing any lost or damaged dielectric oxidation on the foils. There is a small amount of electrolyte evaporation that is going on continuously with a capacitor. This is unavoidable, but fortunately is happening at a very slow rate. This evaporation has the greatest effect on capacitor lifespan. 300,000 hours is just over 34 years.

Good

Thanks for the acurate information alucard8008

alucard8008 07-07-2006 07:25 PM

no prob

Just ensure that you top up the flux fluid in it at least twice a year.

Dukk 07-07-2006 10:36 PM

I change the fluid every 3months and keep it inflated to 34psi.

works for me. :smilie_da

Dobermann 07-07-2006 11:12 PM

uh??

I missed something i think

alucard8008 07-07-2006 11:22 PM

me 2...

MR2NR 07-07-2006 11:24 PM

34? Mine only goes to 31, what are you doing different Dukk? Are you using the improved charge convertor on it? Mine is version 2.1, I replaced it this February after the last one cacked on me. I heard talk of a new software upgrade that was downloadable to the charge unit. Is this what you have?

Dobermann 07-07-2006 11:51 PM

3 farad for 1700 watts to high? or bigger is better??

alucard8008 07-07-2006 11:55 PM

each farad is equivalent to 1,000 watts, so a 3 farad should have ur system runing smoothly without having to work ur battery too much as long as u have a battery that holds more charge like a yellow cap

Brad-S.A. 07-07-2006 11:55 PM

Rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000W rms true power not Chinese fortune cookie power.

Dobermann 07-08-2006 02:43 AM

So 3 farad is not overkill for that setup, there is a little difference in the price for the model im looking for (like 10$ for a 2 compare to a 3) so im better with 3 for future upgrade etc..

I guess... do im wrong?

I'm running a JDM cap... 1/4 farad, but more reliable and better performance than any american 3 farad.
