Looking for a place to buy a new sub

I live in Victoria and I'm looking for some local shop recommendations. Although, I don't have a problem with buying else where in Canada considering my only other option is Ebay.

I'm looking for a 10 inch sub that has a final impedance of 2ohms. The amp powering it is a 500W RMS Alpine MRP-500. -sealed box ~1.2cubfeet

I'll take sub recommendations, but I've had my eye on the Alpine Type-R SWR-1042D. I need a sub that wont die like my Kicker 10'' CVR, and can stand up to 3 hours of continual use. I was suggest that the alpine sub would be perfect for this (apparently their subs stand up well against heat :dunno: )

I'm looking for a sub, and a place to buy it.
Thank you for helping me out.

go for the type x 10" if you don't mind spending more. also try and find an advance electronics near you. if they're anything like the one here then they'll be great.

as to what ten inch sub i would look at the x or talk to a vendor forbidden audio is close to you kinda ;)

As for advance, they are one of the shops in the city i dont mind more so...still not a huge fan of retail shops for the most part though, tend to be too pushy and not into what im into but that goes without saying with anything. Forbidden is nicer because they are actually into car audio more then just as a job.

why the type X though? I don't think he would want to upgrade his amp and isn't sending only 500RMS not doing the type X justice?

I suggest the same type R or the JBL P1024, or possibly the JL 10W3V3

Sounds like the overall goal of the new sub is going to be that you intend to use it for what it was designed for (the 3 hour punishment gave that away). A DD2510 in dual 4 ohm should fit this bill just fine.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I still need some suggestions on where to buy this stuff.

The alpine type X, and the Digital Designs seem like very high rated subs, and very expensive. My amp puts out a maximum of 500wrms, but I really don't push it that hard. (my music taste caters to more then just bass)
I'm still a bit unsure as to why my kicker died, but from my last thread it was decided that it was from heat.

As for the JBL P1024 and JL 10W3V3, ebay has better prices on the Alpine Type R. Untill someone suggests an other place to buy at; The apline type R still looks like the best choice.

my budget is around $200-250

Thanks again.

1.2 cubes might be a bit big for a sealed box for a sub like the type R if that is the net volume after displacement. The power handling goes down a bit when the box is too big as it can reach it's mechanical limits prematurely. That sub likes a ported box more as well, you will for sure get more output also, and the box won't actually be much bigger. Shoot me an email, I can help you out further with a box for your application.

1.2 cubes is before displacement, thats why I went with it. I figured after the sub it would be just right (~0.8)

I'm actually thinking of getting a new box, but the reason I didn't get a ported was that I would've had to have made it my self (which I could have) but I didn't have the time. Also, I'm not looking for Extreme bass. The kicker I had before had just enough bass at what I was playing it at, and I still could crack the volume.
It just.. died... :(

Also, besides heat killing the CVR, It could have been because its rated at 400WRMS, and my amp can do 500Wrms :dunno: ? (Also, at the time of it dying I turned up the gain a little more, so I could have been actually pushing close to the 500w [gain was at 'normal' and I turned it up a little])

The DD2510 is not far off of what you would like to spend for a new sub. At least it will have warranty, locally to you at that vs. anything bought on E-gay. Heat kills subs, you have enough power on tap to build up heat. The longer you play something, the more heat is built up. From what you have posted thus far in the thread, there is no way that I would recommend any E-bay bought sub as it would have zero warranty for you, shipping and brokerage fees + the CDN $ exchange are going to add huge $ to the bill as well. At least if you have a issue with a sub purchased in Canada, it can be looked after under warranty with relative ease.

MR2NR:
If its ok with the forums, why not post how much it would cost to get one from your shop and have it shipped to Victoria?

Are you/your store located on Vancouver island?
