Looking for a set of components

I have two options. Either run
1)160-200WRMS @ 2ohms (per side) to the components and seal off the rear deck where the 6x9 are.
2)80-100WRMS @ 4ohms (per sidE) to the components and run the 6x9 at 80-100WRMS @ 4ohms (per side) at the back.

What would you suggest is the better option? Goal is SQ with music type of: metal (very heavy on the mid bass.) Maybe option 2, but replace the 6x9 with a 6-8inch sub for more mid bass?

I'm looking for some recommendations on components that will suit the above. I'm not sure how much I'm going to spend; If I must, I'll wait and save up for them. I hope a maximum of around $500?

I've been looking around at Morel's, and Hybrid Audio's site and see that most, if not all, are xWRMS @ 4ohms. Do they come in 2ohms?

The amp I'm using is one that I designed and built in College. Its 100W RMS per channel, @4ohms, 4 channels. Bridging gives 200WRMS at 2ohms, 2 channels, (or 3 channels with one set not bridged)

Thanks for the time and help.

Hertz MLK-165

unbelievable speakers. SQ rivals anything out there.

very warm, natural sounding tweeter, with multiple housings to fully customize the soudn to your likings. adjustable tweeter attenuation on the crossovers.

very very strong woofer. mid-bass is amazing on these.
the speakers are also bi-amp capable.

rated at 150rms, they will easily take the 160-200

they may be a little out of that $500 price range...but they are definitely worth saving up for.

they are Hertz, which is the same company as audison....both companies are made by electromedia. its all hand made in italy. check out reviews and opinions on these, you can't go wrong.

(this is first hand experience, i have them in my car now. i have used JL, Alpine, Focal, and these Hertz in my car. the Hertz are by far the best package)

So with Bi-amping I would use two channels for each pair, one would power the woofer and the other the tweeter? Should work as long as they're both 4ohms.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any suppliers on here have a price on those? Rob? (your closest to me)

I would not worry about trying to hit the 2 ohm mark, very few components are going to be available in that format. To bi-amp things is going to take you into a much more advanced install than you may be prepared for. You will need a hp crossover that may be well beyond the one that is built into your amp. I would recommend to keep it simple and if you want a Hertz killer, short list Morel like right now. They definitely have some fine speakers in the area that you are looking to spend, same with Focal. I will be at the shop in about an hours time and should be there the rest of the day so I can get you some pricing and other suggestions.

ya morel has some pretty amazing stuff. i don't think focal has something that can compare to the hertz unless you are willing to pay alot more though.

the polyglass series is really nice, but not near up to par with those speakers, and the
k2's are more than a couple hundred more, and no better in my opinion (i find all of focals tweeters to harsh).
definitely check out morel though as MR2NR says^^^ .

bottom line is, go into a shop, don't ask the prices, don't ask the specs or brand...listen to them, find what you like, narrow them down, then go from there and weed them out. specs, and other peoples opinions mean nothing in the end. everyone has their own taste. ....you may end up liking a speaker that costs half as much in the end and save yourself some money.

x2 i find focals to be alittle bright and harsh at times if your looking more sq oriented anyways. cannot go wrong with morels line up! try the HSK hertz comps, more in that price range and great performance.

As you probably know now, Bi amping is a new thing to me. So you need a filter before the cross over? What does the cross over do then, if it doen't filter when bi-amping?

i think they are $150...they are in the classified section on here.
they are nice speakers, lol, nothing to drool over in my opinion though, still nice, sounds like a good deal

I've been looking at the MLK165 some more and I really want to get them, but not at $999. Maybe if it was $700 (or $500 :) ) So I'm looking for more components that are around $500 and have the ability to bi-amp at cross over. (like the MLK165)

I'm not too sure on the price of $999, I hope a vender on here can give me a real estimate?

Thanks for the help everyone.
