Looking for some advice from pros...

Well I was recently layed off, I am\was a Carpenter. The way things are going right now I am thinking of a career change, atleast temporary since I am sure all the carpentry jobs will be slowing down.

I found a school that teaches installing car-audio, alarms, starters, etc. called Mobile Dynamics, they are in Thorn Hill. They have a 8 week program where you can get an advanced installers certificate but it costs $6000 plus the cost of the exam and other things. http://www.mobiledynamics.ca/

I am interested in learning and possibly becoming an installer if it is a steady income. I was just wondering if it would be worth paying the $6000+ for this course? how did you guys get into it? I live in an apartment building and I am not allowed to anything car related in the underground parking, nor would I want anyone down there to know whats in my car...

Thanks for any input...

Thumbs down, you wont nothing there for 6 grand that books and net at home will teach you for free. I know people that have went there and where better off staying away from it. If you already have the passion and a basic knowledge do that. 99% of shops dont give a if you went to school. Try and get your foot in the door of a shop, work a year, and write your mecp test.

spending 6 grand to get training for a job that pays like 10 an hour doesn't seem like a good investment especially since the industry is slowing down. If you want to do something I suggest starting a custom cabinet business or something

ok thanks for the input guys, I thought the tuition was a little high for what it was.

get AEAT certified and cash would come in better than 15$an hour. and audio install is easy and usually dont need certification to get in.

what pays the most right now is alarms and starters

Go into home audio installation............ custom stuff. That industry is still solid. Car audio careers suk.

if u are a good carpenter you should be able to find a job easily. dont do car audio, that is probably the worst job/career in the world. I'd rather clean the execution chambers in prisons than work in car audio field.

finding another job isnt a problem, it is finding another job just to get laid off again I dont want to deal with... but I got another job offer today that should be pretty good.
