Looking for a sound system with a budget

I love sound systems, but I am nowhere near an audiophile. I sold my former setup because I needed the money to fix my car. 2 years later, I need a new sound system, but I dont have tons of cash. Most of the music I will be listening to will be rap/hip hop and tons of house music/trance.

Previous Setup:

2 x 15" Kicker Solo Barics Subs
1 x Rockford Fosgate 400.1 Amp
1 x Pheonix Gold Amp (Not sure of model)
4" Kicker front component Speakers

These subs shoock the glass on stores as I drove by them. They were rediculous. I loved the sound, but they were really slow in ways that they didnt really stay with the beat of the music. Its like they were trailing behind a little bit.

I own a 1987 Toyota Supra with a targa top, and when I take the targa off, I need to put it in the hatch. This was not an option with my previous setup, which is another reason I sold it.

What I am looking to get are two 12" shallow mount subs so I can flush mount them with the hatch carpet so I can fit my targa top in the back.
What shallow mount subs do you recommend?

I have absolutely no idea what amp to get. Once again, I am not a hardcore audiophile, so take that into consideration.

I have no idea what component speakers to get. The stock size front speakers are 4" and 5" in the rear. I will have my audio installer fit 6.5" up front. Which component speakers do you recommend for around $400-$500. Don't go by the MSRP on the website because they are always cheaper on ebay. :D

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone here in the GTA area want to take on the task of being my audio guy? Just thought I would ask since I dont know where to go.

The pioneer shallow mounts are alright, I've heard 2 12" shallows off of an old alpine 1507, sounded pretty good in a ford ranger reg cab and I've heard 2 10" off of a mtx 600 watt amp in ext cab chevy pickup. Both setups sounded nice but not enough bass for my liking but I like tomuch bass anyways. bang for buck they're alright. I would like to hear input on the kicker shallow mounts. haven't seen anyone run them yet out here.

Hmm.. Nothing sounds more bassy than two kicker 15" subs lol. I liked it, but it was definately not logical since I need the hatch for my targa.

You can get decent 10" subs that would use almost no space up and still hit harder than a shallow mount.

You think that two regular 10" subs will hit harder than two 12" shallow subs?

Lorrd Fapa 04-08-2007 05:17 PM

Depending on what you run. 2 10" L7 to take it back to kicker would hit harder than a shallow 12 as long as the power is there. We got a guy out here with 1 zr1000 and 4 original 10" squares that hits over 150.

What company is Zr1000? I really dont know much about car audio :D.

When you mean, power is there, you are talking about an amp right?

You said 2 10" will hit harder than a 12" shallow. Are you referring to one shallow sub or two?

I have heard a single 10" sub, not sure what it was, but it really sucked. I heard no difference over stock

Zr1000 is an old school kicker amp and by power I do mean amp power.

Alright. So lets say I get two 10" subs. I still have no idea what kind of amp or component speakers to get. Any recommendations?
