On the Tangband 8", http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/1208_03/w8-740c.asp would it appear that these would work well in my buddy's VW van? He has a big wooden box under the back seat, if I had to guess I would say that it was about 6 cubic feet or more? It is a storage box, but we put 6x9's into some existing holes, and it has room for a pair of 8's, also. The seat flips up, which gives access to this box, would a layer of foam tape around the edge help? What specs do you need to look at to determine if a sub will work decently free air? I did a few searches, still came up short. Thanks!

If I recall, the Tanbang 8 has very small box requirements and so I think that it wouldn't work well in a free-air application (especially of that volume). Why not make part of the storage box the enclosure?
Looking at the sub's QTS, you could run an AP setup... |
Thanks for the info, I thought about doing a box within the box, not a bad idea. AP is not really in the budget, though.

looking at the ts, probobly a small vented would be best, definitley not ib
|
Thanks for the help, Defro, I think .75 sealed is reommended, 1.2 vented.
|
Yeah, put it in a sub 1 cube box. I found that out the hard way with my TB.

as a general rule, subwwofer with a qts of less than.30 will yeild the best results in a vented box or 6th order bandpass, but not sealed and definitley not ib, i,ove the description of teh speaker, magnetic voice coil, nice
