Low voltage issue...again
 

Alrite so im in the process or rerunning some 0gauge power wire and big 3 but ive been reading on the JL audio website that my amp keeps shutting off due to momentary voltage drops below 9volts :| since im rerunning all the wires and new fuse blocks and relocating my amps, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on things i can i.e. a kinetik HC600 power cell? would that hopefully solve the low voltage issues? anyone know where i can get 1 at a descent price or anywhere to get a good audio battery? or any other suggestions to help with low voltage?

... so why do you think your voltage is dropping to 9 volts? are you using a voltmeter? or are you like you said reading it from the JL website???? Are you running 10,000 watts or 500?
9 volts is impossibly low.... it makes me think there is something wrong with your cars electrical system... if your battery is good and your alternator is good, then improving the big 3 will have value. If the cars electrical system is malfunctioning then upgrading will be very frustrating

What is your idle voltage? If it's around 12+ volts sounds like your alternator is on it's way out the door. I'd finish with the 1/0 upgrade and big 3 then see how things are.

I had a similar problem when I switched to my JBL. It's a power hog. As soon as I switched up the wire, it worked perfectly.

Be sure to make the best connections possible for the big 3. :smilie_da

Well I'm running a 12w7 from a he 750/1 and a Audison srx4 and I have a voltmeter, idle I run about 13.5 with everything off and the car In park! The amp will cut off when I turn the volume up, I can see the voltage drop rapidly to 12.2 then it quickly drops when the amp turns off so I figure it has to be the momentary voltage drop below 9volts:/ my question is would it worthwhile or beneficary to install a power cell in the trunk like the kinetik hc600? Or would that be a total waste of time? It's just that I'm waiting to install everything on the same day and I don't wanna cut all my wires short and then have to relocate everythng and need new power wire or anything:(

So don't cut them right away. 13.6 is my idle voltage also. I have a feeling that after your new wire and big 3, all your problems will go away. :) What size is your stock alt?

Stock alf puts out 90amps:| which will need upgrading eventually LOL that is if I don't buy a new car! Would I be doing any harm by running the small battery in the trunk?

90 amp alt should be O.K. Upgrade the wires, everything else should work out for ya.

Your system isn't that big to warrant voltage going that low unless there is an issue. The issue is either:

1- the cars electrical system (what does battery terminal voltage do when you start the car?) starting the car should draw a lot more power than your stereo, if the battery terminal voltage goes low to 9V for instance then the battery is probably done.


2- wiring to the amp (what does battery terminal voltage do when the system pounds?). This will tell you right quick if the stereo is really making the entire cars electrical system poop out or just the wiring to the amp. If the wiring is good the battery terminal and the power wires to the amp should have the same potential (voltage) at the same time.

big 3 is a plan no matter what. One good battery is a must, two is gooderer but not essential. A cap would be pointless with your problem. The 90 amp alternator is small but it should be adequate if it is working properly.

Lets do free stuff first then we can get into your wallet (you know you want a second battery dont you)

dude I had a 10,000wrms amp running off a odyssey 1750 with the car off full out it only dropped to 10.7volts if you are dropping that far you need to measure it at the battery and at the amp. If its fine at the battery and dropping low at the amp its the wire, if it is dropping low at battery and amp then you need a new battery, getting a new alt is pointless if your battery is no good because unless you are revving it won[t put out much, it will drop your fuel economy and rob power plus tend to make the belt slip in the winter
