Anyone know if this amp will run 1ohm stable or not? I know the site says 2ohm but I'm wondering as I can get a good deal on one atm and need a new amp asap.

Lemme know!

Most likely not because it is 1 ohm stable per channel. The max power is given bridged which means the impedance would be twice the channel impedance so 2 ohms min in to a bridged configuration.

I've run my HK204 at 1ohm mono on the rear channels....the HK series is supposed to be stable that low, however I did notice a hefty current draw at that point.

Begs the question tho......if you have a 1ohm load to drive and it happens to be 2 2 ohm loads, get 2 of the amps and run 1 to each coil or driver......:smilie_da

Barring that, keep a close eye on the gains and check the amp for heat the first time you try it......:dunno:

Yeah, I don't feel like tryin to find a second similar amp. Be easier just to change the subs up so I have a 2ohm config. Maybe I'll give it a test run, it is my buddies amp so I'm sure I can try it for a day or 2.

If you try running his amp at 1 ohm when it isn't 1 ohm stable, you could fry the amp.

Riddle_Rob 05-03-2007 12:53 AM

I realize that ^^ I can figure out if its safe or not haha

Smoke_31 05-03-2007 12:54 AM

Lol. Install it when hes not there. If it frys, tell him it wouldn't work at all. :)

Riddle_Rob 05-03-2007 01:32 AM

HAHA yea...too bad its currently installed in his car.

Figured out that it will work for me. Just different config. 2 12" Dual 4 subs, make 1 ohm final for ONE channel, well Imma run it 2ohm x 2 channels. 600rms /channel will work great.

Smoke_31 05-04-2007 10:31 PM

awesome.

Riddle_Rob 05-04-2007 10:51 PM

Yeah I thought so when I came to the realization that I could do that..lol.

There are purists around here who will debate the merits of wiring the coils in series and the drivers in parallel as a 4ohm mono load on that amp. I have never heard a difference, but there are a couple of advantages electrically....:smokin:

It must be an age thing tho....:dunno: ....having started doing car audio in an era when having 200 watts total for a car was a serious system, I have to shake my head at the fact that it is taken for granted that having 1.2Kw of bass in a car would be enough.....but not a crazy system....

God I love my toys.....:cheeky4:

i once had the hk1397 which is the exact same as what you got. I use to run 3 18's off the one amp. the subs where wired down to around .90 ohms and the amp ran with no probs. No clipping or over heating. Great amp tho.

Riddle_Rob 05-05-2007 04:47 PM

Really? Well maybe I'll give it a try yet. I'm tryin to set up a night I can meet up with my buddy to borrow the amp for a bit. I'll definitly try both setups.
