I want to make a Tone CD but not really sure where to start. I downloaded NCH Tone Generator and messed around with it for a bit so I understand how everything works. I am not sure thought what tones should I include and for how long, 20hz-100hz for 20 seconds each as an example? They should be sine wave I assume. What about sweeps from what to what? Thanks for the help I plan on dedicating a CD to this so what would you guys include or what did you guys include. I want it to be as versitile as possible.
Thanks |
first make sure you do a few minutes of 33Hz, and get a woman in there and see what happens. you always want sine waves, for testing bass you usually want it under 80 hz. burn a range and have fun. will that program play sweeps too? i'll have to get it again and play around.

I also downloaded Cool Edit Pro 2.0 form Kazaa, as it seems to be a pretty powerful editor. When I create a tone in NCH and open it in Cool edit to compare, the tones created with Cool edit seem to have a higher amplitude when zoomed out they show 0db at all times (but the waves are there) and NCH tones show -12 although I created them at 0db. Kinda hard to explain since I really don't understand why they aren't the same. ie, NCH tones have an average RMS of -12 db while tones created from Cool Edit have an average of 0. Which is better?
Thanks again |

Does anyone know what level most music is recorded at? I just did a quick check with the new Linkin Park cd and it was maxing around 2 db and averaging under 0..
The Kings of Crunk cd from Lil Jon was averaging around -8 db and had peaks around 0. |
when i get my new subs in i will try it and let ya know, but that might be aways off since its parked for the winter. its supposed to work as its the resonant frequency of that area. 16Hz is spinal torture, and 8 makes you take a dump.

I have several tone CD's available on my website, I didn't use any of these programs however.

Is it good to set your gains using 0 db test tones? or do you want to set them at like -4 or 5 or something lower then 0?
