Matching Front Speakers

Hi

Originally i had bought Alpine speakers from the same series(Type S), 4" for dash and 5.25" for the doors.

When i began to install the dash speakers, it was apparent that they were too large. I had to buy 3.5" from a different brand.

My question is, should i still use the Alpine speakers for the doors or would it be better to buy new 5.25" from the same Brand and Series as my new dash speakers so that it a better match.
Does it really matter?

thanks
J

Oh man that sucks, I feel for ya. Can't just modify the dash speaker mounting area a little to accept the 4"ers? What kind of vehicle?

1993 Corrado.
I dont want to modify too much and it will take quite a lot to get them to fit, and the tweeter also sticks out too high which will cause problems with the grill.
I will try and sell the 4's on ebay or something.
The 3.5's i picked up fit much better and the tweeter sits lower down which gives me clearance.

What is the "other brand"? Have you listened to what the "other brands" 5.25's sound like? Do they sound better than the Alpines? I would assume that having matching brand types would help with the overall tonal balance.

Energy 3.5" from FS. I needed to buy from a place where i could return in case it didnt fit. FS also carries the matching 5.25".

Other than a couple people on here mentioning Energy speakers, I know nothing about them. I know that Type S is Alpines lower level speakers so buying the energy 5.25's might do the job... Totally depends on if you like how they sound.

Here is a thought..... buy yourself 5.25" component speakers and put the woofer in the door and the tweeter in the dash...... you are going to go way further with good sound if you do this.

I assumed he was going to do that anyway. Or put it in the pillar. Just added the extra 3.5 mid.

Its pretty funny that you mention that. That is the exact way it has been installed for the past four years. I had Alpine Type R 5.25" Compnents. Woofer in the door and tweeter in the dash. It was a total nightmare. I am sure its because they were way too far apart, more that 2 feet! I would get a massive headache after about 20 minutes of having the music on. It was way too bright and ear piercing.

The built quality of these Energy speakers is impressive.

I understand that Components are the way to go, but i do not want to have any visible modifications to my car. I do not want a tweeter in the door card or A Pillar.

this car is only used a few times a year, so i just need the sound to be good, not exceptional. the way it was before was unbearable so i needed to make a change.
