Mini Review: RFX8250

So i met up with Eddie to test out this baby (i was having hifi withdrawl symptoms and i think he was just too anxious to wait for his). The system in my Jetta that it was listened through consists of Canton 5 1/4" mids in stock door locations, some older power series Fosgate dome tweeters, both being run off a Mcintosh amp with 100 wrms per side. i used the stock Canton passive X-overs. the sub is a JL 13W7 run off a Fosgate BD1500 at 3 ohms (good for at least 1000 wrms), in a 2.8 cubes ported box tuned to an undisclosed frequency. These components were literally thrown together in 1 day in the fastest and easiest possible installation, so i always thought not much good would come of them. however, once we swapped in the 8250, the system really came alive!! I couldn't believe the detail and acurancy of the system. Then came Eddie's Sheffield Labs test CD... wholy crappers were we surprised at the sounds being generated! everything sounded detailed and accurate. the sub was fast and exact on all notes. the tweeters which once sounded bright and harsh were smooth and seemed to dissapear from their mounting locations as did the mids. what imprssed us the most was the stage width...at least 10" beyond the drivers and passenger side mirrors. further, althouh there was no center and concise image, the stage was wide and well distributed. You could pin point quite a few instuments. Height was also excellent (at least by my standards). Reminded me of my old Clarion 9255... both Excellent units. This piece was definetly worth the money... i'd be hard pressed to find a better unit for less than $1000.. excellent buy!
so there you have it, my rant is over and i couldn't be happier (unless it had digi out for the upcoming PXA H700 )

OOOOOOoooo... That deck was mint. I totally agree that it will be hard to find a deck especially in that price range that will even come close to the quality of sound that we got. For stock locations in your jetta, the soundstage was damn wide. Tonal quality was very impressive - but I think the sub needs to be toned down a tad. Hahahahaha! I can't wait until that deck goes into your 300zx. Oh, and I can't wait until I get mine into my car! Too bad I won't have any amps... the waiting game continues. Thanks for coming up, Marco!

It was pretty cool meeting up with ya Eddie.. we will definetly do it again as the equipment arrives!
Kriston, that's a tough choice, although i would opt for the alpine (if its a PXA H700). if not and if you're not competing, i'd think the ID's would be absolutly Excelent!

you can compete and do very well with the ID's
I will be using my rf8250 with my Arc Audio DXE
Not, the point... either units will be an excellent choice, but the Alpine offers alot more flexibility.

yes, in a 1992 Jetta (winter car). it is a temporary swap.
and yes its the Denonford deck, the RFX8250.
Teh 300zx is still not finished. it's been a really cold winter, so its hard to heat up the garage to acceptable working temperatures... I was doing some kick pannel work but once it got cold, i just stoped completely...
