Ministry Certification (Ontario)
So I am trying to make a move up a position (Tech Lead) in my workplace (Future Shop)
I've been told that I need to have a Ministry Certification, now the only thing I have been able to find is called an Automotive Electronic Accessory Technician (AEAT). Is this the right certification? If it is, could anyone who's taken the test give me some insight as to what is on the test? I'm VERY sure that there is a lot on the test that doesn't apply to my job. I have the 4000hrs needed to qualify, but how can you take a test without knowing what is on it? I want to be some what prepared for it. Thanks |
That is the right test if you can install Remote Starters on late model vehicles and know how to do a bypass and how relays work, you will pass. The rest is common sense stuff like shop safety...etc

I think I can write the test at one of the apprenticeship offices near me. I'm MECP 1st Class (Silver) Certified already, doesnt mean squat with the position I want to move up into. As for writing the MECP, there are ways to do it. You need to arrange a test date, hire a proctor (i think thats what its called) and find a public place to write (usually the library) |
I've said it before and will again: MECP is a BS certification created and promoted to make money.
I'm all for official certification and believe there should be a true government regulated apprenticeship/journeyman program in place for mobile electronics installers like any other trade. I do not support MECP though. |
