Mint Orion Concept 97.3...How much would you pay?
#13
Will it run if you drop it lower??.....of course it will....for how long is the key question. Like every amp ever made, running it below rated loads will probably shorten it's life....even if you set up a cooling system to help out, the question for me is why?? It seems to me if you want or need more power for subs, buy one of the 2KW + "D" Class amps made by 1/2 dozen different companies now. The Concept will do mids and highs effortlessly at 250+W per side (nice amp if you have a fairly robust 3 way set up front stage..... ) or power a pair of 2ohm sub loads in the same style. Mine has been running 4 15" XTR SVC subs for around 12 years now without so much as a hiccup and I can say they get pretty loud.....
I have no problem with people trashing equipment by abusing the crap out of it, I just think this particular unit deserves more respect.
That's my $0.02 worth....some people here may demand change back.....

actually i know mark busier quite well and he built that amp back in 97. it was the third generation of the 2250sx amp... spec were not quite as good as orion posted and it had some reliability problems with blowing outputs, and they are hard to find replacements and voltage regulators were a issue as well.... other wise very very nice amp... not alot of amps back then could compete with it... and at 2 ohms... give it lots of current and you will be very happy with it... its not effiecient though so be ready for the big three upgrade.... good luck with it

Dude... if you don't MASSIVELY drop the load you're going to OFFCIALLY give your sub 2 watts RMS @ a 4 ohm bridge... this amp was the utlimate designed cheater amp

You heard a guy ran it at a dead short you didn't see it. I'll take the knowledge of someone who owns one. That's just how they rated the amp for competitions sake. It's foolish to think that a car amp would work in that manner. What would be the point?

you asked i told you... if you want to have 4 watts to each of your subs, go ahead. They did it because years ago the classes for comps were determined by RMS power @ 4 ohms... Have you ever run an old school orion before? I have... We even arc welded with one.
