Morel Hybrid Ovation power handing question

I have the 6" version of Hybrid Ovation by Morel, and I was hoping that someone might know how much power these speakers can handle. Morels site says 160WRMS per side, but I'm sure I read that they could take a lot more. I was thinking of picking up a HiFonics Zeus ZX96410 to power those speakers but at 360wrms preside might be a bit much.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

360 watts a side is just perfect. I power my CDT's that much and they are rated around 150 wrms a side. You know that it is all about setting your gains properly and paying attention to the volume dial, and last but not least minding your ears. Some people run 500 wrms a side without problems. It is all about headroom as you know, and I do not think your ears will be able to handle all that power and speaker cones will let you know when to dial back on the volume, way before thermal meltdown.

IIRC, Morels are up there with power handling abilities with the best of them, and have some of the industry's largest voice coils on their component sets to handle all that current.

The most important thing when using that much power is making sure to have a high pass xover on them and you should be fine.

I've powered my Morel woofers in the past with more than rms with no issues for 5 plus years. I had the elate 6" powered with 300 watts a side from 50 hz @ 18 dB/oct, mt-23 tweeters with 100 watts each, and cdm 88 mids with 100 watts each...all were actively crossed. The power for the tweets and mids were more than enough even though they're rated for more, and the woofer was perfect with almost 2x the power...very clean, lots of midbass, and no problem handling anything i threw at it. All my systems are "over powered", but I listen at low to mid levels...I believe in lots of headroom. Even though I don't have Morels right now, I still think that was my best sounding system to date...just have to get rich again to get them back!!

having 300 and 500 watts does not mean you are using it! there really is no way a 6" mid-bass can in any way take that kind of power, if it is rated at 160RMS that's what it can reasonably take and not blow up.
I am not saying I disagree with most of the comments to date on this thread but read what the original poster said "I heard it could take more"... well the truth is probably not much more than 160watts.

Thanks for the help and info guys. The amp I'm looking at should read: HiFonics Zeus ZXi6410.

Thats a good point JohnVroom. I wouldn't be running 360wrms at all times, but what does worry me is that I like to do long drives (3-6 hours) and with that much power... I would hate to blow my new (and quite expensive) speakers.
I guess I need to find out what too much power 'sounds' like. I have no problem pointing out distorting sound, but my last sub bit the dust when I ran too much power to it. I guess it impossible to say for sure, but does anyone think those speakers could take 160-200wrms all day long? I'm fairly sure that is what killed my sub (running it at less then 500Wrms for 3-4 hours. it was a kicker CVR 10" rated 400wrms. Seems like it couldn't even run at spec WRMS)

Another good point is about morel's over sized voice coils. A few people I've talked to said the same thing.
Limiting the gain goes a long way I guess. There is such a small difference in price from this amp that can do 360wrmsx2 vs an amp that can do 160wrmx2.

Any more info, or comments would be great.
Thanks again.
