so Shaughn your saying that all the profit does and will be spent here in canada
i don't buy that
yes maybe they will invest until they have met a saturation point or should i feel domination point
then where will the profits go
and as in supporting charity its a 100% tax right off so either they give the money to taxes or charity
its something alot of businesses do incuding me
it still usually money owned in the first place

kool its easy to look in a belive what your saying but i don't buy it entirely
as in the percentage i can't really see that in my business
car dealers are my most repeat business and they don't make that much up
i can see it for a highly consumable product and i don't see that applying to car audio
how often does your average consumer rplace what they have?
as in the competing on price im not refering to everyday sales prices
i refering to the units sold for stupidly sold prices
the ones that are sold out the back door to make there quarter so that the head company is happy
i feel as an independant you should be offered a deal on the product
i have tried to get better pricing from many distributors
and there reply is usually well theres your case lot pricing oh ya and heres your volume rebate

as for giving some customers better pricing i have tried that
so then you get buddy out bragging on how he got alot better pricing on it than his friend and now his friend is now pissed at you for not giving him a better deal

i really feel that volume pricing is prejudice
you aren't allowed to give customers better pricing on looks wealth or race are you

i know i know volume buying
just because it happens dosn't mean i should feel its right
thats my opinion
dosn't mean you have to agree with it

What about forming a buying group with other independents? I know in my area some of the independent shops are friends.
I know a few local sports stores in my area are in on a buying group to get discounts.

Sorry if this does not apply I am not sure if I am up to date on the other post

the discount don't add up to what they do the back door deals for
instead of doing lie 10-20% off
they sell them for like 1/2 price to meet there 1/4 target
its a slap in the face
as far as i see it
and they will tell you to your face we don't do it
and from talking to verious people who have been in the business a while
that it is a dirty secret they will never admit to

fat as in the small stores i try and support small local business for all i can
i as a business man understand what it take
expecially when you see all these consumers flocking to these american big box store
and you shake you head when things get tough and they complain that there are no jobs
well no **** your shipping all the retail profit south of the boarder to support the americans
where you should be trying to look after you neighbours

Back door sales are a fact of life and if you wanted to you could sell out your back door. but my point was from the other thread you do not get the bulk discounts like FS and BB, where if you were in a buying group you might be able to gain a few levels in buying power and get closer to the prices that BB and FS get.
PinHead what city are you from?

instead of complaining here about futureshop, and best buy, and other big box stores, why not spend more time doing what sets the little shops apart? worry about your customers, and your shop. i know for a fact that alot of people would support the local little guy if the difference isn't too big, and even more so if the people are nice, and helpful. i went into a shop the other day, and the guy took the same care with me buying a single cable as he did a guy buying a pair of subs, an amp, cables, and installation. That's where it all is there.
