MTX Amps
 

Does anyone here have any experience with MTX amps? I was considering the TC 4004 and I just wanted to know how they compare with other brand names and what kind of power can I expect from it. The rated power is 50 watts RMS and I want to power a set of 90 watt RMS components. Will they produce more than there rated power and about how much more?

I used to sell the TC4004 when I worked at FS. They are a decent amp.. but if your components require 90rms a channel, consider something else. Those TC series amps do get rather hot at times too.

Go with an amp that has a bit more power than the speakers rating. Going with something lower means your not gonna get the power it can handle without bringing in distortion. You can get away with a bit of it with subs, but speakers you hear the distortion a lot easier.

I would recommend at least a 100w RMS per channel amp. If you set the amp up right, you should get lots of good clear sound. Running a 50 watt RMS/channel amp and trying to get 90 RMS out of it is a quick death for a speaker.

And MTX is a company i would consider on the low end of the scale as far as speaker amps go.

Well the last time I checked the TC4004 is a 4ch amp so if you're planning on running a comp set with it you'll either be running it through the passives and bridging the amp to 2ch or running the comps active and going in 4ch mode. In either scenario the TC4004 should be of ample power to get the job done.

Actually I wanted to use two of the channels to power the comps and then bridge the other two channels for a sub. Would this be possible?

If you just plan on using two of the channels I would look into a bigger amp.

There is a lot better 4 channels out there for a decent price. ive had a mtx and it was cheap but sounded good but i took it back because it heated up way to quick and it had quality issues like a adjusting screw on the side pushed into the amp like a week after i had it but it was loud and cheap and if you get it from fs you can always try it and take it back if you dont like it.

The only other 4 channel amps which I could get is the MTX 6004 and a Exile X600.4. It seems futureshop has stoped selling the 4 channel rockford amps.

Well like said earlier something in the 100-120 x 4 rms range would be prefect. What is the power ratings of those amps? and any reason why FS is your only choice?

Futureshop is the only car audio store in my area. If I dont buy from them then I would have to buy online.
