My sub in my MTX Thunderform is a 10" MTX 6000. I've had it about 4 years or so. Well, now it is fading in and out. The sub makes no sound until i press down on the center of the cone then it bumps as it should. I popped it open and I didnt see anything loose connection-wise so could something be wrong with the magnet? I heard about dust cap probs with these but could that be the culprit? Any help appreciated, I cant stand being without it much longer!

I would say its your voice coil..

I saw a&b selling new 6000's for 50 bucks brand new in the box.

Yep.. could be a short in the voice coil...

Even more likely is a shorted/broken tinsel lead.. either at the wire terminal or where it enters the cone.....

It's a pretty easy fix to do yourself if ya have a soldering iron handy.....

i agree withthe tinsel lead. not familiar with these speaks but if have a little slack in the lead, desolder it from the terminal and pull the lead through about 1/8-1/4' and no more then resolder the lead to the terminal. for the sake of asking, stamped or cast basket? somtimes you can bend the terminal mounting tab back towards the cone for more slack. ghetto fix man!

Camarowner I will agree with Haunz about probably being in the tinsel lead. If I were you I would contact SCL PRODUCTS at 604-607-4595 this is our distributor and see if the can repair that sub for you.
