My New Setup... Subwoofer Placement/Loudness
Hey,
So I have a Kicker ZX650.4, powering my front speakers, and was powering my subwoofer.
I had a 8" JL W3V3, which I thought was rated for 250W RMS, but was actually 150W RMS. So thats how I blew it, it overheated and smoked for a good 10 minutes. The amp could put out 320W RMS in bridged mode.
I just ordered a Kicker 8" Dual Coil 4 OHM subwoofer. Which is good for 300W RMS @ 4Ohm.
Will still be using my Kicker Amp, except I was told not to bridge it and to just run 1CH to each voice coil. So I can get 240W RMS, and should be close to 300W RMS since Kicker Amps are underated (Another member told me that).
Which way should I face my subwoofer? Last time I had it at the very far rear of the car, and pointed towards the back and up at the glass (Box is slanted, so its on like a 30 degree angle. Should I keep it like that? or would I get a louder sound putting them up against the rear seats, and have the facing the glass.
Next, should this Subwoofer be a lot louder? I assume it may be since it handles 2x as much power, but may not have as good of a SQ as my JL did.
Thanks for the help guys... New at this stuff.

actually it depends on a few things, box type (sealed, ported etc...), power, sub efficiency (how much power it converts to sound), and installation( specific vehicle, orientation etc..). Assuming everything else is the same as the JL, the extra power might give you a 1-3 db increase in output, but overall it won't be a big difference (jl and kicker both make pretty efficient subs), and you need to double power for a 3 db increase (a 10db increase is perceived as twice as loud).

Yeah its a ported box, but everything is the exact same as my JL setup. Just the subwoofer itself will be different.
Can't wait, like you said it may not be that big of a difference but hopefully I can at least tell.
