Mythbusters Car Audio Episode

Mythbusters is trying to bust a myth that you can rattle another car apart on the road while pumping a beat.

They claim 170db will do it lol.

Good luck even getting 170db fellas, and your gonna need a lot more than that to rattle a car apart.

I think they hit 161.3....@16hz!!

Pretty impressive looking. Especially since it was a homemade sub driven by the car's drive shaft.

they would have done alot better if they didnt cheap ass everything, i knew right away that the cone they made from inertube woudlnt hold up. i download this ep along time ago after hearing about it, i was dissapointed they didnt just get a whole bunch of subs and make a wall in a unre-enforced car.

Jack-Hammer sub solves all.

I actually just saw that episode last night.... yeah 161.3 at 16hz is crazy!!!! The woofer cone was actually made of metal(cant remember whether they said what material exactly but metal non the less) and the surround of an inner tube. This woofer was way bigger then the Jackhammer as far as cone area goes. The jack hammer has 379.94 sq inches of cone area, while the Mythbusters woofer had 2289.06 square inches of cone area, and the only way to rate the amount of power is in LB ft of torque post transmission on a Mercedes benz diesel motor!! which is the equivalent of 9 18's!!!! Man thats awesome!!!! The only woofer i have seen that is bigger was the MTX Thunder 1,000,000 from the late 90's, That animal was 60" or 2826 SQ inches!!!

Big woofers are cool!!!

Here is a link to the MTX 1,000,000

Yea, I think the whole thing failed because of there crankshaft idea. They would have been a lot better off just rigging up a huge amount of amps, and powering it like that, because the motion of the crankshaft looked like it was too much for the subs surround to handle.
