First rule of Italian driving..

I agree with Hardwrkr
I don't put too much importance on rear speakers, especially in a sedan, where subs are involved in a trunk application.
Allowing the subs to vent through the 4x10 "PORTS" (just for U Dukk), will give you max. output in the cabin, and prevent(hopefully) a rattling trunk .
After all "the first rule of Italian driving is whats'a behind is no importante'"
As for Eclipse Vs. Pioneer tonally, I agree with Rob (must be our aging ears Rob)
But.., Dukk is right, if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit!
BTW, I seem to recall working on a similar car, and I managed to put in a pair of 6 1/2 comps. in the rear side panels above the armrest.(if you HAVE to have rear speakers)

I had an 85 Cutlass a while ago. I really liked it, but I cracked the frame. It was a quick, fun car to drive for sure.

For my stereo I put tweeters in the stock 3.5" spots on the dash, and 6.5 mids in fibreglass kickpanels. It sounded great (I used a low-end Focal component set running of about 75w rms each).

I had a big sub box made and put 4 10s in the trunk off of about 1000w rms total. My box took up the space where the 4x10's would have sat under the rear deck. The box filled the whole spare tire area and came out about 3-4 inches in front of the lip of where the trunk lid and body met.
It's a fairly small cabin in that car, in my opinion you REALLY dont need rear fill, the 4x10s are going to be drowned out by almost ANY subwoofers you put in the rear of the trunk. No one in my back seat had trouble hearing the highs/mids, though they couldnt hear much if it was turned up.

I still have a box for 4 10s that I had made. Needs new carpeting but I'm in Northwest Toronto if you're interested.
I also have a makeshift amp rack (really just a drilled and covered wood piece) that fits into the driver's side of the trunk/wheel well area. The stuff's just taking up space and can be had for a song if you're interested and relatively local.

The doors dont have a ton of room for speakers due to the windows, IIRC. However a set of built-out door pods might look sweet (Though adding any weight to those doors is a recipe for new door pins every few years).

NOTE - If memory serves me, measure 12 times drill once - If you DO go for kickpanels or anything that needs to be mounted or drilled into the stock plastic kickpanel area BE CAREFUL - some of those cars (the ones with PCM/ECU or whatever computer controllers) have their computers and a great deal of wiring behind the passenger side kickpanel area. Dont go drilling blindly!

I've actually also got a set of brand new doors from an 86 or 87 Cutty that got wrecked, in my garage, just offhand if you're looking, as good parts are harder and harder to find for the G Body cars.

Shoot me a PM if curious.

Good to see someone ready to enjoy the G body era again!

Cheers

PS - Go find an LT1 or TBI 5.7L/350 out of an old Firebird or Trans Am instead of those headers!!! The 350 will fit just right in the big G body front clip!!
