Need help choosing an Amp
Hi, I'm pretty new to CCA and car audio.
Just looking for some advice here anything is appreciated. I have 2 12" MTX 7500s. They're 400RMS each single 4 OHM voice coils wired down to 2 OHM in a slot ported box made by bassworx, but it is very close to spec. I'm using a Planet Audio VX900D Amplifier, which puts out at 2 OHM, 600 watts RMS. The output is decent but I know I can produce a lot more than this, if I push some more power to the subs. Just looking for advice on what amplifiers would suit my setup best, also keeping my budget in mind. I'm looking to spend in and around 400$. Obviously I won't really be able to get something brand new, so just suggest something that I would be able to get used for around that price. Thanks in advance for the feedback, Cheers.

adding 200Wrms will only be very slightly noticable. In your instance overkill might be necessary. almost any reputably 1200Wrms@2ohm amp would suffice. A Great value is Bassworx Ba1200D, but thee are more chices than you can shake a stick at.
What size is the power wire you're running to the amp?. Have you done the Big 3 upgrade?. Also if your Planet Audio amp is like the old one's you'll never get full power out of it without using the bass boost (which distorts the sound)

i would say that the subs are getting about 250 rms each at most, considering its not very clean power if i turn the gain very high. I would think another 300wrms would make a considerable difference. I will be doing the big 3 upgrade in 1/0 as soon as it warms up a bit, ended up rushing my install working every weekend for 2 months of this winter in the bitter cold in a tiny garage. My actual power/ground wires are 4 guage right now. And yes this is an old planet audio amp.
Just wondering is $300 a good deal for a Kicker ZX1000.1 ? anybody have experience with this amp?

It's a good deal if the amp isn't refurbished or had previously been smoked. Also you should be using at minimum 12 guage speaker wire (not cheap 16 guage with alot of rubber as most companies seem to be selling as 12 guage now)

Given the sheer number of refurb Kicker amps on the market, that should be a clear indication to stay away..... Sure the value is there on a refurb IF it stays operating. There have been some items that have been great refurbs that I would recommend. Is this one of them, I guess it would depend on the person selling it to you and how willing they are to look after you if a problem does crop up.
