need help choosing a sub - cone size / speaker impedance

i read the sticky, but am still confused on speaker impedances and cone size. i listen to rap and techno mostly and am looking for 50/50 sound quality and loudness. i have a 250/1 jl amp and would like to get a jl sub as well. whats the difference with them and would you have any recommendations?

The box is going to make or break the output of any sub. Take the best sub in the world and put it into the wrong box and you have a recipe for disaster. JL Audio is great equipmnet, just drastically overpriced at dealer cost in Canada. This means it is even a worse deal for the consumer. With the power you have just keep it simple on a sub, concentrate on a good box. If you want a little bit of output, a slot port box is a ideal way to go and with the power you have available, that is what I would be looking to do. I would recommend a Digital Designs DD1512 in this situation or if you really want to keep the budget down, a Pioneer Premiere or Kenwood Excelon. The DD will have the best output in the slot port box by far and will sound great doing so.

The solution for you is very easy; the 250/1 does the same power from 1.5-4 ohms, so you can get Dual 1, Dual 2, Dual 4, Single 4, or Dual 8 coils, or any similar combination.

As far as the size is concerned, you'll mostly be restricted by how much room you want your sub and enclosure to take up in your vehicle. Generally speaking, the larger the sub or the more subs you have, the more space you'll give up.

Heck, I see you're in Abbotsford. Get in touch with Bob from CSS:

I think the SDX10 would be perfect for you, and at a much better value than anything you'll buy from JL.
