Need help selecting a system .

Hey guys its been long since i came to CCA , seems like alot of people have joined the site .

So my friend is buying a 2002 Jetta 1.8 , he wants to spend about 500-600 on amp + sub / subs + HU .

I wanted to know what u guys would recommend... He wants to beat his brothers 10" type R in which is getting 400 RMS in a small ported bassworx box .

He wants something which is reliable and of good quality , if anyone on the site can give me a good deal or a complete package let me know

Thanks

I suggest keeping an eye out under the classified section here and see if you can find a deal. Jetta have the ability to get loud, so you can easily do it with 500rms and a 12" woofer

http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/online/selective-sound/150960-jan-feb-winter-clearance-sale.html (Link) $170

Check out the second head-unit down. Kenwood KDC-x592. This is the same unit my fiancee and I decided to buy for her car. But we paid $220 for this unit, and that was $30 off the store's ticketed price of $249.99. You're not going to see a better deal than that for what the deck offers, unless he decides to pick up something used. 3 sets of 4V pre-outs - so if he ever decides to upgrade and amplify his front speakers he'll have a deck capable of that. Excelon has a 2yr warranty, too.

Amp: http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Products/Car+Audio+Video/Amplifiers/GM+Series/GM-D8400M?tab=B (Link) $375, maybe?
With a $400 CDN MSRP, he should be able to find it for a little less. 600W x 1 @ 2ohm. So he'll have 50% more power then his brother's setup. Respectable.

There's also this amp...
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10 113240&catid=&test_cookie=1

Apparently is stable down to 1 ohm, with a 1000W RMS output. I tried looking at the product manual on the Exile audio website, but they don't have one available for this amp. Futureshop sells this amp for $300. Is this amplifier "reliable and of good quality", I couldn't tell you. But 1000W for $300 is unbeatable, price wise.

The problem then is, does he decide to run it at 1 or 2 ohms? It'll be impossible to stay within his budget if he wants a sub that can handle 1000WRMS. I suggest he buy a sub to run at 2 ohm (500WRMS). Then, down the road, if he wants to add a second sub, he can do so and have another 500W.

So he has $130 left over to buy a sub...

You guys have to keep in mind the extra cost of the wiring harness for the head-unit, set of RCA's, and all pertinent wiring. Install?

He has a lot of options. But if his criteria for piecing his system together is to outperform his brother's system, that he's most likely going to have to increase he limit...

used gear only. with a $600 budet all the taxes on new gear will kill you. dont forget you will also need power wire, etc.

Yuli's right. I'd still check out that Kenwood deck though. It's a great little unit.

Future Shop is not going to carry the Exile line anymore from what I hear. They were blowing out those amplifiers to clear them off all inventory. Nonetheless, it was a good deal (but I had the upper end model with more power at the same price.....muwahaha). I will look at a package for you that will allow the user to expand on it as well.

I can hit the $600 mark (+ gst and shipping) with a pair of 12" subs, class D mono sub amp and a head unit with USB and IPOD cables included. You would need to build your own box or pick up a prefab locally (build your own to guarantee performance). Two ways to go about this, a 4 channel amp to power the front and one sub or a mono amp to power 1 or 2 subs. Either way is going to be expandable for the buyer. If he wants bass and wants it now, go the mono amp and 2 subs route. Used vs. new at this close of a price difference is a no brainer. I need the postal code to calculate shipping for you.

How about audiobahn or kenwood amps i know there not that good but in his price range they go well. He just wants something that would last and he's a person who wouldnt keep it on max all day

MR2NR 02-05-2009 04:37 AM

Audiobahn = chrome plated turd and the company is long out of business... hit me up on msn if you like.
