need help with setup
 

hey, i'm new to this site and i'm not shur if i'm posting this in the right section but here goes.....

i just bought a 91 toyota mr2 and i'm now looking at getting a sound system. i already have a head unit "alpine iva-w205. the reason why i'm asking for help is cause i'm not used to working with such lil space. i'm looking at "I guess" a truck setup. i need something pretty small. i'd like to get a 10" for behind each seat and an amp. i'll probably hook up the amp either under the driver seat or in the frunk.
any help would be great, thanks guys

bump, i was maybe thinking of getting two alpine type R 10", but i'm thinking that they'll need a pretty big box.i might acually just go with one behind the driver seat cause i'm short so theres more room there and put the amp behind the passenger seat. if you don't know what a mr2 is, its only a two seater, so ya, not much room.
hope someone can help me out, i've seen thread on mr2 sites, but those guys just use 8" subs and cheap ones. i want 10" and a good brand.

I almost bought a 91 MR2. a few years back and I know what you mean that there is very little space to work with. I recomend a shallow 10" sub. A couple companies make them and they cost a little more than equal normal subs but I think they would be ideal for your setup. here is a few links:

Way back when these cars were new, a buddy of mine put a system in his. He had two MTX Blue Thunder tens behind the seats in sealed boxes, a MB Quart component set up front using stock locations cept for the tweets which were mounted high in the door panels........soundstaging and kickpanel mounting education was out there but not quite mainstream at the time......and he used Alpine amps, all mounted in the trunk. His subs wouldnt do the lower notes due to the small boxes and full size subs but they were very fast and tight sounding, the system as a whole got pretty loud and did a decent job for the size of the car......even with the roof removed.

With todays shallow sub technology and small box requirements, you should easily be able to fit a couple tens back there, you still wont win bass comps but will have lower bass than my buddy had.

ya, i'm not trying to win any comps, i just want some good bass. i see in the other post, a few links to some shallow subs. but unfortunatly i know nothing about shallow subs. what would be a good shalow sub that i won't regret buying. money isn't really an issue cause i aint gonna have the car on the road for a couple more months so i can save up whatever i need.

My personal choice would be the kenwood.

id agree with kenwood, decent shallow mount subs.... :)

My closest experience with shallow subs so far is through a few friends systems, using Pioneer and Elemental Designs. They all seem happy with their purchases and the bass sounds fine to me for using such small enclosures. I wouldn't suggest trying to push them in a quest for more bass than their designed for.........everything has its limits, with self control I think you'll be pretty happy with whichever shallow sub you decide to use.

I have a smallish car too and this spring when I get the chance will be taking my sub box out of the back hatch area and switching to the Elemental Designs shallow subs mounted under my seats to free up more usable space.

thanks for all the info guys, i'm still debating on what i want to get, i see you guys are saying to go with the kenwood, but i find that they look to plain. i'm making this mr2 a show car, so i'd like to get something that stands out. how about those triangle subs? are they any good. do they require a big box? i remember seeing a buddies buddy having three in a fiberglass box with the liquid cool tubes and lighting. it looked awsome. any idea's would be great, thanks. if this was your two, what would you do?

The kenwood shallows have a complete carbon fiber cone which I think looks pretty cool, they've actually changed there whole line up to be these now, anyway I read a great review in PAS about the eD shallow subs, they seem to act more like a regular sub instead. So I'd prolly lean towards them, even though the kenwood rep tells me to push only his products, lol.
