Need opinion, Kicker 12L7 (2005) an SQ sub?

I used to have a pretty sweet system with a Boston Pro 12.5LF sub in a sealed box and that rocked. I've also heard two 10" Kappa Perfects and that was a good mix of sq and spl for me.

I'm now building up a sound system on a budget and currently have 2 12" Pioneer premier subs in a sealed box but it sounds very lose to me... ie flappy, and doesn't play very deep. The amp is a Soundstream rubicon 1002 amp (1000watts rms).

There's someone selling a 12L7 2005 model in a ported box made by kicker that I'm thinking about.

Is the sub in a ported box considered an SQ sub? I've had the original round Kicker solobarics before and they didn't have very good SQ. Thoughts?

The Kicker will get loud, personally I would not touch it for everyday listening. Nice amp you have as well, that amp was a favorite of mine.

Even Kicker will tell you that there square subs suck for SQ...

Cool that's my answer then. I'm going to hold out for something else. Thanks for the quick replies. :)

actually, Tracy Focht will argue with you all day that they're quite decent.

you can buy my Alpine 12" Type X, I'm going kicker subs (shop in town is giving me a sponsor), so I need to let my X go and fast, its in the Alpine X box too

a friend of mine tried everythign to get it an l7 to osund good. no way was it possibly still sounded "boomy/sloppy"

small sealed
big sealed
smal ported
big ported
bandpass.

mind you it got DAMN loud.

the kappa perfects sound nice :)

Artsar, check your PM. :)

Is that an SQ sub or an SPL sub? 1000-3000watts? That sounds nuts. I'd rather get a single 12" sub though to maximize trunk space.

from my understanding its much more of a SQ sub that has the SPL potential. I love the sub, just I got an offer from a shop that I can't really pass up. To give you an example, I can play heavy metal and it still sounds good, but it also has enough umph to get, kids attention and girls wet (so i've been told, by friends)
