Need opinion on system
Hey guys,
I am currently looking at buying 2 Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1224d's and powering it with a Power Acoustik BAMF-4000/1D. I just wanted to know some of your opinions on this and how you think it will run with a 12V set-up linked with a 3-Farad Capacitor. To me it looks like a good system, but some opinions would be greatly appreciated. |
Power Acoustik BAMF-4000/1D:
# SPECIFICATIONS * Amplifier Class : Class D * Number of Channels : 1-Channel * Maximum Power : 4000 Watts * RMS Power Output @ 4 Ohms : 1200 Watts x 1 Channel * RMS Power Output @ 2 Ohms : 1700 Watts x 1 Channel * Bridged Power : N/A * THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) : 0.5% * Signal-to-Noise Ratio (dB) : 100dB * Frequency Response (Hz) : 15Hz~150hz * Built-in Crossover : N/A * Subsonic Crossover Frequency : 20Hz-50hz * Low-Pass Crossover Frequency : 40Hz~200Hz * Bass Boost : 0dB~18dB * Bass Remote : Yes * Fan Cooled : N/A * Fuse Rating : 40A x 3 * Dimensions (Width x Height x Depth) Inches : 13.77" x 8.26" x 2.16" * Approximate Weight : 10.3 LBS * Warranty Information : 1 Year Warranty Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1224d • Max Power: 2000 Watts • Rugged carbon-glass fiber cone • Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coils • Gold-plated Push Terminals (8 AWG ready) • One-side terminals • Rubber magnet cover • Dual magnet drive • Super linear spider • Push terminals • Removable gasket • Frequency response: 35Hz - 500Hz I have a feeling that that amp wont really push out 1200-1700w and a 3 farad cap would be a bit over kill as 1 farad covers 1000watts so at most I think a 2F would be good. overall I think it would be a decent setup depending on the box you put the subs in. |
I would buy the KFC-XW1222D's instead. They can be wired to present a 2 ohm final load which will give you some headroom. The amp will put out 1700 watts which will nicely power your subwoofers.
As far as the cap goes I wouldn't buy one at all. Do the big three first and if you still have problems then try using a 2 Farad cap. |
Hey. I was thinking about the set up and figured that most of the testing must be done at 14.4V rather than the 12V i got in my car. So yeah, 1700WRMS on the amp and 1200WRMS on the subs doesn't sound too bad. I wanted to throw in a 2-farad cap, but found a super deal on a 3 farad cap that I couldn't pass up, but yeah, i understand the whole 1000RMS per 1 Farad thing. As far as the big three comes in I currently am looking at doing it as I do get some dimming off of my 600WRMS system. So yeah, it would be a good idea. Thanks.
Just wondering, what kind of power do you think a 1700WRMS@14.4V rated amp will produce at 12V? |
