Just because there are spaces in the doors for speakers does not mean you must fill them. Get a respectable set of 5.25" 2way component speakers and call it a day right there. If you are just getting started in this and don't know exactly what to do, do not overcomplicate things. If you are willing to work with me, I will ensure that you get a respectable system for your budget.

I suggest you find someone with a decent SQ setup and take a good listen. Then start asking questions like, "what did you start with?" and "do you plan to change it?".

The $1500 budget might be tight with all the wiring and accessories to make a reliable system. Reliability may not equal sound quality if you're going to pound on it often. I've heard some real nice sounding speakers and I've also heard them go scratchy and smelled the music.

Really for a SQ system the stock alt should be fine. Upgrading the big 3 only helps with reliability of your power supply to the amp/s and helps them do what they are designed to do. You're probably not going to be drawing 1800 watts with an everyday sq system. Realisticly you'll be listening to music at moderate levels and only be putting out about 500 watts total. Remember if you're listening to your music at 60% volume and your amp is tated at 100w rms, it's probably going to be putting out about 60 watts at that volume. Maybe a nice 300 or 400 watt 4 ch. amp would suffice.

Just curious.....

I thought I read somewhere if your alternator doesnt run many amps then doing the big 3 will just draw power that isnt there and slowely kill the alternator? So I thought you would need to get a 200 amp alternator?

Thats just what I thought but it sounds like I am wrong lol.

Hit me up bro. I am in the Dixon & Martingrove area. You can have a listen to my car, I have a total of $1500 in gear in my car and it will blow away a lot of $3k+ systems. It is more to do with picking stuff that will work together then installing it properly than what stuff you buy. Listen to MR2NR, Rob is an awesome guy and will be greatly missed here. Unless you are installing everything yourself do not forget to add that cost into your budget as well. There are a few of us here willing to help out with installs. (For a price of course LOL)

OP: can I ask why you are stuck on the Type X? The M1000 on a single 12" Type R would sound much better and be more flexible than the X. It is a more sensitive sub, and with that amount of power, it'll be tight, accurate bass that will boom when you need it too. It won't need a huge box either. The Type X is more geared to competition, and even there you won't see a whole lot of serious competitors running them, if any. If you like the Type X gear, stick to the X's for 5.25" components. Personally, I would be talking to MR2NR for a set of Morel components, but it's really up to you

My truck is now stock but a new Eclipse Van system is going in and probably some pointsource 5x7" speakers. Just simple is all I need. Enough to listen to tunes as I plow snow or drive equipment from point A to point B.
