New Amp - Need some pointers.
 
Hey guys I just got my amp in today (Sony Xplod XM Gtx-2200 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001YEYKM/ref=olp_product_details/002-2487364-5617645?ie=UTF8&seller=).

Anyways I was wondering what kind of wiring you guys would recommend for it and if anyone could point me towards some good priced amp kits on the net. Also if anyone knows any good places in Ottawa to get wiring and/or installations done let me know please...

Do I really need 0 gauge wiring for this amp or can I go with 8 or 4 gauge? Any ideas....

With 500RMS you could use 4 gauge for sure. 8 may even be possible, but you're better off to go on the safe side and opt for the 4.

Get a 4 gauge kit and you will be fine.

Ok I guess i'll go with the 4 gauge then. Does anyone here have one for sale or knows where I can get a good one in Ottawa?

for only 500 watts, 8 AWG would be fine, but if you add more power into the mix, then you'll have to upgrade the wiring as well. it depends on your long term goals for the system. if in 6 months or a year you will be adding more power, more subs, or another amp, then you will run into problems. so I'd say get the biggest you can afford, within reason of course, a 0 awg kit can be had for under 150, and install with a 4 awg kit should be the same as a 0 awg kit, so the only thing you need to ask yourself is what you want the system to be able to handle, now, and later...

Yeah that is a good point. Although I dont think I will be going much further that what I have now. Just out of curiousity does using a 0 gauge vs a 4 gauge for the same amp actually make a noticeable difference (b/c the 4 gauge should handle the amp more that adequetly)?

P.s. Has anyone here bought an amp wiring kit from the vendor 'smartass'...just wanting to know your experience with the wiring and any other feedback you might have.

If an 8 AWG kit would work, go to XS Cargo on merivale. Last time I was there they had monster kits for $20.

No, for 500w you're not going to nitoce a difference between 4AWG, and 0 AWG...
