First I would like to start off and say "Hi" to everyone. I just happened to stumble across this site while browsing other forums, and I must say it seems to be a pretty cool place. Now alittle bit about me. I've been into car audio for some time now, but never to the extent of some of you guys, I would just say I'm an average hobbyist. I have a '97 VW Golf that was recently broken into and stripped and I do mean stripped (rims, tires, stereo, most upgraded interior parts etc..) So now I pretty much have her back together and all thats left is the system. My insurance company would only give me a max. of $1,500 for my old stuff ,which I'm not complaining too much about but hey what can ya do. So that leaves me $1,500 to build something with. What I'm looking for is some advice on whats out there and will fit into my budget, so that means sub(s), amps, mids, and highs as for the HU I'll leave that last which I'll buy out of pocket, but suggestions on that too would be muchly appreciated ($300-500 range). The type of system I'm looking for has to pound pretty hard yet still have some decent SQ. I tend to listen to Rap/Hip hop, dance , drum & bass with alittle rock every now and then. I was thinking of just buying a JL 1000/1 amp and JL 12W7 off of ebay and starting from there, but that chews up all of my budget (and maybe then some) and just add to my system from there ( I still do have some old mids and highs laying around). So whatcha guys think. Oh and sorry for the long post

W7's are pretty pricey are they not? I'm no pro, and i'm sure someone on here will correct me when i screw this up. But what about something along the lines of a brahma? save a couple hundred from a 12w7. Maybe get a hifonics 1500 amp? They seem like a solid budged combo. Probably get the pair for under $1000, which would leave ya $500 for a solid set of components and maybe somewiring and related.

Well my buddy got 2 MTX Thunder 2700's, Alpine 6" triaxils and Apline 3" Coaxils all for $400 flat at A&B Sound. Overall for the price, it sounds awesome. We ported his box to 36Hz and he pounds everything from Tech N9ne to Tom Petty to Ministry of Sound. Basically the moral is, you don't need some high end quality stuff to have some boom with your zoom, just focus on the box to best of your ability. This way you can butter your money over all the products.
If it were me, I'd get 2 RE HC 12's and hmmmm, JBL 1200.1 or something.

PS - Welcome to CCA and whered ya come from?

I got a jbl 1200.1, got it almost new for 380$ and it puts out tons of clean power (about 1400 watts rms) . Resonant engineering probobly the way to go for your sub, a RE XXX compares very well to a W7, many think its better, and its also cheaper. youll be under 1000$ for amp and sub for sure if you get used, and then that leaves atleast 500$ for some speakers more like 600$, that should give you lots of choice for mids/highs.

The forsale section on this site is a great resource...

thats where I'd do my shopping...

Thanks for all your guys help so far, its been great. I'm still up in the air. I really like the thought of the 12W7 but is it really going to out perform a cheaper (in $$$ not in quality)sub. What I guess I'm getting at is, am I going to hear a real diff between the two for the amount spent. I saw the Kaption thread and I was thinking about those as well. My old system had 2 Kaption 10" SPL's and I really liked them, but after awhile I wanted more, I wanted them to hit harder and lower, not the subs fault it was just the fact that they where 10's . Are there any good shops around the GTA that I can hear some of these diff brands RE , Adire , etc... ?

welcome to the board dv8ion

as haunz said the for sale forum here is a great place to buy stuff (speaking from exp)
you can aquire a lot of high performance gear here for a fraction of the cost.
chck out the buyer/seller feedback for which memebers offer the best service.

as you only have a limited budget and are looking for a high performance sub, you will also require a high performance amp.
dont cheap out on the deck its the heart of the system!!!!

good luck

ebay's ok but the sellers here have a little more of a concience about selling stuff that dosent work
